Electrician & Facilities Support

We are currently seeking a highly solutions-focused and collaborative Part-Time Electrician & Facilities Support professional (30 hours a fortnight, 0.4 FTE) who will be responsible for the Exhibitions & Operations portfolio. They are responsible for delivery of Scitech products and services in physical and digital environments, providing operational management and oversight to Science Centre, Statewide and TREX channels. The Electrician & Facilities Support role will be responsible for the electrical and general maintenance of the overall facilities including reactive repairs, upgrades, refurbishment of the Science Centre and other Scitech locations as required. This role will also contribute to displays and exhibits, including installations, testing, fault finding and repairs.

In this role you will:  

• Take on the role of Scitech Electrical Nominee, with responsibility for overseeing electrical contractor compliance and related obligations. Applicants do not need to hold an Electrical Contractor/Nominee Licence at the time of appointment. Scitech will provide training and support to the successful applicant to complete the required contractor’s course and WAE200 – Electrical Operational Requirements and obtain the necessary licence.
• Provide guidance and governance over electrical compliance to Scitech facilities, site electrical assets and exhibitions in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and legislation.
• Investigate, interpret and apply relevant State and Federal electrical legislation to Scitech’s electrical operations, procedures and processes.
• Manage and supervise electrical contractors, ensuring works comply with relevant Standards and that all required documentation, electrical safety certificates and notifications are completed.
• Plan and undertake electrical maintenance, repairs, diagnostic assessments, troubleshooting and new installations, including testing and certification, in accordance with relevant Australian Standards.
• Promote and maintain a safe and compliant working environment, including identifying and reporting hazards, using appropriate PPE, supervising work, and ensuring periodic testing of electrical infrastructure and appliances.

Who are we looking for?

• Is a qualified electrician with a strong understanding of electrical safety, compliance and maintenance requirements.
• Ideally has completed an electrical contractor’s course or has experience working in an Electrical Contractor/Nominee capacity. Applicants who have not completed the contractor’s course will also be considered, as Scitech can provide training and support.
• Is willing and able to undertake the WAE200 – Electrical Operational Requirements and the training required to fulfil the Electrical Nominee responsibilities.
• Works effectively within an extended team to support the maintenance, construction and refurbishment of builds and general maintenance requirements of Scitech.
• Maintains high level of WHS awareness and compliance.
• Ensures electrical installations and equipment meet compliance requirements for the Science Discovery Centre and other Scitech locations and assets.
• Has experience with landlord, contractor liaison and supervision.

Other skills and experience required includes:

• Ability to use a range of tools such as basic hand or power tools with a strong commitment to health & safety.
• Assist with maintenance of all Scitech facilities and premises to deliver an outstanding and safe customer experience.
• Experience liaising and coordinating external contractors and suppliers.
• Maintain a level of fitness commensurate with a role requiring frequent manual handing.
