About the role

Banjo's Bakery Cafe is seeking an Apprentice Baker to join our talented team in Howrah, TAS 7018. This is a part-time position that offers an excellent opportunity to launch your career in the baking and pastry industry. As an Apprentice Baker, you will work alongside experienced bakers to learn traditional and contemporary baking techniques whilst contributing to the production of high-quality breads, pastries, and baked goods that our customers love. This role is essential to maintaining our reputation for excellence and freshness, and will provide you with foundational skills and industry experience that will shape your future in the culinary arts.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of bread doughs, pastry mixes, and fillings following established recipes and quality standards

• Operate baking equipment, including mixers, ovens, and proofing cabinets, under supervision and guidance

• Learn and practise proper shaping, scoring, and decorating techniques for breads and pastries

• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the bakery kitchen and work areas

• Monitor baking times and temperatures to ensure products are baked to perfection

• Assist with the packaging and presentation of finished baked goods

• Support the preparation of ingredients and the organisation of the bakery workspace

• Learn food safety procedures and adhere to all health and safety regulations

• Contribute to the general operations of the bakery cafe as required

What we're looking for

• A genuine passion for baking and the desire to develop professional skills in the industry

• Able to start as early as 12am with reliable transport to the bakery

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and presentation

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

• Physical fitness and the capability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks

• Reliability and punctuality, particularly as part-time hours require consistent commitment

• Willingness to learn, take direction, and ask questions to improve your craft

• Basic literacy and numeracy skills

• A food handler's certificate or willingness to obtain one (training may be provided)

• Preferred: Some experience in a commercial kitchen or hospitality setting, though formal training is not essential as full training will be provided
