The Role:
Morton Engineering are currently seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Workshop Foreman. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you'll be responsible for coordinating workflow, leading production teams, maintaining quality standard, improving efficiencies and ensuring work is completed safely, on time and to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities:
As Workshop Foreman you will be responsible for the following:
Leading day to day operations of the workshop crew consisting of approx. 20-30 personnel.
Assist with planning of work by scheduling and assigning workshop staff, establishing priorities and monitoring progress to ensure project deadlines are met.
Ensure all tasks are carried out effectively and safely in accordance with the company OHSE policies and procedures.
Lead daily toolbox meetings.
Maintain high standards of quality, productivity and workmanship.
To actively seek solutions and make appropriate recommendations to improve quality, productivity and equipment performance
Monitor and manage performance of staff.
Coaching, mentoring and developing apprentices and tradespeople.
Reviewing procedures and instigating improvements.
Complying with third party accreditation to ISO 9001.
Management of all workshop fabrication and site installation operations including direct line management production and installation staff.
Review, management and distribution of detailed workshop packages.
Reliability in planning, reporting, communicating and ensuring compliance with company and legislated requirements
Ensuring full compliance with Workplace Health and Safety protocols and processes
Managing workshop resources, equipment and facilities - including ongoing maintenance.
Working closely with Project Managers, QA personnel and clients to ensure successful project delivery.
Identifying opportunities to improve workshop processes, efficiency and productivity.
Position Requirements:
As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:
Minimum 5 years' experience in a supervisory role within a fabrication or heavy engineering environment.
Trade qualification as a Boilermaker/Fabricator.
Tertiary qualification i.e. diploma/ associate diploma, or more advanced in mechanical engineering would be an advantage
Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and welding practices.
Previous experience leading teams of tradespeople and apprentices.
Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills.
A hands-on management style with the ability to lead by example.
Strong planning and scheduling abilities.
The ability to manage tasks through to completion
A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
The ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes.
Excellent time management skills in relation to planning and scheduling
Excellent relationship building skills
Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
