Part-Time 3-Day Nanny – Cherrybrook NSW

• Monday: 11.00am-5.00pm, Tuesday: 9.00am-6.00pm, Wednesday: 9.00am-6.00pm
• Previous experience supporting children with additional needs is preferred but not essential. A willingness to learn is most important.
• Flu vaccination preferred.

Our warm and welcoming Cherrybrook family is seeking a caring, reliable and attentive nanny to support their family. With Mum currently on maternity leave with their newborn daughter, the family is looking for a wonderful nanny who can primarily provide dedicated one-on-one care, play and support for their 3-year-old son.

Their little boy lives with Angelman syndrome and is non-verbal, does not currently walk independently and requires full assistance with transfers, toileting and feeding. While previous experience supporting children with disabilities would certainly be valued, it is not essential. Far more important to this family is finding someone who sees the whole child rather than the disability; someone warm, enthusiastic and genuinely excited to connect with him, learn about his individual needs and celebrate his personality and achievements.

A typical day will focus entirely on childcare and creating an engaging and nurturing rhythm for their son. This includes one-on-one play, preparing lunch and snacks, supporting his toileting and nap routine, going for walks in the stroller, visiting the park next door, and supervising and encouraging him as he explores using his walking frame.

Communication is also an important part of his development. He currently uses an iPad-based communication program to model language, and the family would love their nanny to embrace using this throughout the day. No prior knowledge of the program is required, as the family is very happy to provide guidance and support.

Their son also experiences seizures, so the successful nanny will need to feel comfortable learning how to recognise and respond appropriately should one occur. The family will provide education and guidance around his individual seizure presentation and care needs.

There may also be opportunities to assist with their newborn daughter as needed, particularly at times when Mum would like to focus her attention on her son.

The family is looking for someone who is reliable, caring and attentive, with the patience and confidence to build a genuine connection with their son. They particularly value someone who is present and engaged with the children and who is willing to learn and adapt to their son’s individual communication and developmental needs.

In return, the family wants their nanny to feel genuinely appreciated, listened to and trusted. They value open communication and want the successful candidate to feel confident and supported in their role, while having the autonomy to do their job well.

Duties & Responsibilities include:
• Providing attentive, one-on-one care and engagement for B3
• Planning and participating in sensory, musical, developmental and age-appropriate play
• Supporting feeding, snacks and hydration throughout the day
• Assisting with toileting, nappy changes, transfers and mobility
• Supporting his afternoon nap routine
• Taking him for walks, visiting the local park and encouraging movement using his walking frame
• Learning and using his iPad-based communication program to model language throughout the day
• Learning how to recognise and appropriately respond to his seizures in accordance with the family’s guidance and care plan
• Providing occasional support with the newborn as required
• Preparing simple meals and snacks for the children
• Maintaining a safe, calm, engaging and nurturing environment
• Communicating openly with Mum and Dad regarding the children’s day, routines and wellbeing

To Apply, You MUST have the following experience, attitude, and qualifications:
• A minimum of 3+ years of professional nanny or childcare experience
• A genuine interest in supporting children with disabilities and additional needs
• Previous additional-needs/disability experience highly regarded, but not essential for a candidate who is willing and enthusiastic to learn
• Confidence with hands-on care, including feeding, toileting and physical transfers, or a willingness to learn
• Current Working With Children Check
• Current First Aid and CPR Certificate (or willing to obtain ASAP)
• Current National Police Check (or willing to obtain ASAP)
• A minimum of 2 Australian-based child-related references
• Flu vaccination preferred
• Non-smoker
• A warm, patient, reliable and attentive approach to care
