Guidance Officer - Mount Ommaney Special School

About Us:

Mount Ommaney Special School was first opened in 1992. Mount Ommaney Special School provides educational programs for students aged between 5-18 years who meet the criteria for special school enrolment. The Mount Ommaney Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP) supports children from birth to 5 years who have been identified with high support needs in one or more of the following areas: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Impairment, Physical Impairment, Speech Language Impairment, Visual Impairment and Hearing Impairment.

At MOSS, we work closely with our school based therapists, nurses and coaching staff to ensure we meet the very unique needs of all of our learners.

About the Role:

Working closely with our Social Worker, the successful applicant will help families navigate external services, disability supports and NDIS-related processes, ensuring they are connected with appropriate supports and services. They will be a key contributor to coordinated wraparound support for students and families, particularly those experiencing complex educational, behavioural, social or wellbeing challenges.

Desirable skills and experience:

• The successful applicant will possess strong skills in psychoeducational assessment, counselling, positive behaviour support, consultation and complex case management. The role includes cognitive and adaptive behaviour assessments, disability verification processes, educational adjustment planning, special school enrolment assessments, temporary attendance applications and support for ECDP pathways. Experience undertaking comprehensive assessments to inform educational decision-making for students with significant disability and complex learning needs will be highly regarded.
• A strong understanding of disability and its impact on communication, access to learning, social participation, health, safety, personal care and independence is essential. The ability to identify developmental needs, recommend appropriate adjustments and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support students with complex and diverse needs is highly valued.
