Working within the Design and Estimating team, and alongside Manufacturing and Project Teams, you’ll prepare clear, accurate steel designs and drawings to support both speculative and live modular construction projects.
You’ll be responsible for producing high‑quality steel modelling and detailing documentation in line with project briefs, ensuring outputs are practical, compliant and ready for manufacture.

Key Responsibilities - Produce comprehensive modelling and fabrication shop drawings for speculative and live project works, in accordance with project briefs.
- Undertake primary steel and light gauge steel framing detailing of projects.
- Prepare clear and concise documentation including BIM modelling, fabrication shop drawings, cut lists, drawing lists and other supporting documentation.
- Conduct structural load assessments through available software suites.
- Produce engineering working documentation other supporting documentation as necessary.
- Interpret project contract obligations and design parameters.
- Communicate project related structural engineering requirements with consulting engineers.
- Ensure conformity and adherence to steel design & drafting standards (including AS/NZS1170; AS/NZS2312; AS4100; NASH Standards).
- Undertake peer review of documentation.
- Comply with document control requirements and maintain good administration practices.
- Work collaboratively with department team members and other relevant stakeholders.
- Other responsibilities, duties and activities as directed.
About You You are an experienced steel detailer with strong 3D modelling and model-coordination skills. You take pride in producing accurate models, high-quality documentation and practical detailing solutions while meeting project deadlines.
You communicate clearly, manage your workload effectively and work confidently with consulting engineers, architectural teams, project managers, manufacturing teams and site supervisors.
You’ll also bring: - 3+ years’ experience in a steel detailing or similar role
- A structural or engineering qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Demonstrated experience producing accurate 3D structural models and fabrication shop drawings.
- Experience undertaking multidisciplinary model coordination and clash detection within a BIM platform.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian standards including AS/NZS 1170, AS/NZS 2312, AS 4100 and NASH
- Experience with structural steel detailing software (Autodesk Advance Steel preferred)
- Experience using BIM coordination platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks or equivalent.
- BIM modelling experience
- The ability to interpret architectural, structural and building-services drawings, specifications and engineering documentation.
- The ability to identify coordination, constructability and fabrication issues within 3D models and communicate them clearly through mark-ups or RFIs.
- An understanding of steel fabrication methods, erection requirements, tolerances and manufacturing constraints.
- Strong attention to detail, organisation and time-management skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work within agreed project deadlines.
- The ability to build effective working relationships across technical, manufacturing, project and operational teams.
- A collaborative approach to peer reviews, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
- Understanding of semi‑rigid and pinned connection design
