About the role
Cranbrook School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Outdoor Educator to join St Mark’s Pre-School, located in Darling Point, in a part-time, fixed-term position commencing Term 4, 2026.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Outdoor Educator will plan and deliver engaging outdoor learning experiences that support young children’s physical development, health, wellbeing and confidence.
Working across the Pre-School, the role will provide opportunities for children to develop fundamental movement skills through purposeful play and outdoor activities, while contributing to a high-quality learning environment aligned with the EYLF and IB frameworks.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teachers and educators and contribute to the broader Pre-School program.
This is a fixed-term, part-time 0.6 FTE position working Monday, Wednesday and Friday, commencing Monday, 12 October 2026 and concluding Friday, 11 December 2026, with the possibility of extension into 2027. The position reports to the Pre-School Coordinator.
ABOUT YOU
You are an enthusiastic and collaborative educator with a genuine passion for outdoor learning, physical development and supporting young children to build confidence through movement and play.
You will be confident working across multiple Pre-School classes and building positive relationships with children, teachers and educators. You will bring a reflective and collaborative approach to your work and be committed to creating engaging, intentional and inclusive outdoor learning experiences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, implement and evaluate a high-quality outdoor education program aligned with the EYLF and IB frameworks
Develop engaging movement-based experiences that support children’s physical development, health and wellbeing
Create opportunities for children to develop fundamental movement skills through obstacle courses, team games and other outdoor activities
Observe and track individual children’s development and use this information to inform planning
Develop meaningful observations and documentation that demonstrate children’s learning and progress
Work collaboratively with teachers and educators across the Pre-School
Participate in collaborative planning, reflective practice and professional dialogue
Intentionally connect outdoor learning experiences with individual learning goals and the broader curriculum
Contribute to consistency in practice across the Pre-School
Uphold children’s safety, wellbeing, rights and best interests at all times
SELECTION CRITERIA
Demonstrated experience working with young children in an early childhood or education setting
A strong understanding of outdoor education, physical development and fundamental movement skills
Ability to plan, implement and evaluate an intentional outdoor program aligned with the EYLF and IB frameworks
Strong observation, assessment and documentation skills, with the ability to track and respond to individual children’s development
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, teachers and educators
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multiple classes and contribute positively to a team environment
Commitment to reflective practice, continuous improvement and professional dialogue
An understanding of relevant early childhood legislation, regulations, service policies and procedures, and child protection responsibilities
Demonstrated commitment to children’s safety, wellbeing, rights and best interests
Minimum Certificate III Early Childhood
