Part-Time Driver (Tax-Free Pay)

Your Role
As a part-time Driver in the Army Reserve, you’ll be at the heart of Army operations, enabling the mass distribution of troops, equipment, armoured vehicles, fuel and supplies. You’ll get to drive a range of high-spec military vehicles including high-performance 4WDs, tank-carrying transporters, off-road forklifts, trucks, road trains and fuel tankers.

Your duties may include:

• distributing cargo, equipment and personnel to support important missions
• learning to tactically manoeuvre a range of vehicles, use mounted weapon systems and apply camouflage
• driving off-road, understanding vehicle capability in challenging terrain and conditions
• recovering bogged, damaged and ditched vehicles
• loading and unloading vehicles using forklifts, vehicle mounted cranes and hydraulic integrated load handlers
• maintaining vehicles to keep them in working order.

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax, and it increases as you gain seniority and experience. Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.

Location

You will train for 3 weeks in Wagga Wagga, NSW. Following your training, you will be posted to an Army unit close to where you live.

Eligibility

For this role, you must:

• Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF
• Have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics

• Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare
• Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
