We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated disability support worker to join our team at The Trustee for CARE AT NGURRA UNIT TRUST. This is a full-time position based in Lightsview , SA 5085. As a disability support worker, you will play a vital role in providing essential support and assistance to individuals with disabilities, enabling them to live with dignity, independence and quality of life. Your work will directly impact the wellbeing and social participation of the people we serve, making this a truly rewarding career opportunity within the aged and disability support sector.
Key responsibilities
Provide personalised support and assistance to individuals with disabilities in their daily activities, including personal care, mobility support and household tasks
Foster independence and encourage service users to participate in meaningful activities and community engagement
Develop and maintain positive relationships with service users, treating them with respect and dignity at all times
Assist with meal preparation, nutrition support and monitoring of dietary requirements
Support service users in accessing community facilities, attending appointments and engaging in social activities
Maintain accurate and timely records of support provided, including service user progress and any concerns
Communicate effectively with team members, family members and other professionals involved in service user care
Follow health and safety protocols, including infection control procedures and manual handling techniques
Promote a safe and inclusive environment that respects the rights and preferences of service users
Contribute to the continuous improvement of services through feedback and suggestions
What we're looking for
Genuine compassion and empathy for people with disabilities, with a commitment to person-centred care
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with service users
Patience and resilience in supporting individuals with varying needs and challenges
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Basic literacy and numeracy skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records
Physical fitness and ability to assist with manual handling and mobility support where required
Reliable and punctual with a strong commitment to duty of care
Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain it
A valid driver's licence is desirable
A clear criminal history check and working with children check are essential requirements
Previous experience in aged care, disability support or community services is preferred, though training will be provided for suitable candidates
