About the role
Imagine providing a mental health service that actively breaks down stigma and creates meaningful connections within culturally and linguistically diverse communities
Creating opportunities and empowering people to improve their own quality of life
Supporting people to navigate services in ways that are culturally safe, meaningful and accessible
Building stronger connections between individuals, families, communities and services to create lasting social change
If your values align with ours, and you are passionate about supporting Korean and Chinese-speaking communities, we have an opportunity you may be interested in.
About the Opportunity
We are looking for someone who can bring their language skills, cultural understanding and passion for community connection to support members of Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking communities.
For many people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, accessing health, mental health and social support services can be challenging. Language barriers, cultural differences, stigma and unfamiliarity with the Australian service system can often lead to isolation and prevent people from accessing the support they need.
This role is about helping to bridge those gaps.
Your ability to communicate in Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese, alongside your understanding of Korean/Chinese cultural values, family dynamics and community networks, will help create meaningful connections and build trust with people who may otherwise find it difficult to engage with mainstream services.
How You Operate
You’re an activist for kindness.
You understand that culture, language and lived experience shape how people see the world and access support. You are able to meet people where they are, communicate in ways that feel familiar and respectful, and create spaces where people feel understood.
You ensure your practice is firmly grounded in humanistic roots. You like people for who they are and see beyond labels, recognising the commonality of human experience while appreciating the richness and importance of cultural identity.
You approach everyone and everything with integrity, dignity and respect.
You’re creative and socially engaged. You want to be out in the community, building relationships and creating opportunities for people to connect with each other. You understand the importance of community, family and social networks and know that sometimes the best support comes from helping people reconnect with the people and places around them.
You don’t want to change or save people. You act with compassion, creating the space for others to write their own journeys in their own way. You support people to make their own choices and to build confidence in navigating their own lives.
You believe in people. You see strength and capability in people. The only labels you’re interested in are positive, not limiting.
You understand that conversations around mental health and wellbeing can sometimes be difficult, particularly where stigma or cultural perceptions may act as barriers. You have the ability to build trust, start conversations sensitively and help people explore support in ways that feel safe and meaningful to them.
You circumvent challenges with honesty, dignity and respect. You see barriers as opportunities for creativity and connection, helping people navigate unfamiliar systems while supporting them to remain in control of their own choices and outcomes.
You value personal growth and are open to learning from the people and communities you work with.
Your Future
There’s no traditional case management here.
This is about working alongside people, creating opportunities and building connections.
People manage their own destinies, we simply provide the opportunity to consider, reflect, identify options and make meaningful choices.
We believe in the transformative power of community. For us, connection, cooperation, engagement and belonging are fundamental to improving wellbeing and strengthening communities.
We specialise in social prescribing, linking people with physical and mental health care needs to sources of support within their community.
For us, health is about quality of life.
It is about helping people feel connected, understood and supported. It is about creating opportunities to address the social factors that contribute to chronic illness, mental health challenges, isolation and loneliness.
In this role, you will work closely with members of Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese speaking communities, helping people navigate services, connect with culturally appropriate supports and build stronger connections within their local communities.
You may support people to:
