Position No: 67035
Directorate: Health and Community Services
Advertised (Gazettal date): 07 August 2026
Contact Officer: Toby Keene on Toby.Keene@act.gov.au or (02) 5124 6370
Details: As part of a high-quality end-of-life care system that respects dignity and supports families, the ACT Government is committed to ensuring voluntary assisted dying remains responsive to the needs of Canberrans.
The ACT Government is undertaking the next stage of work in voluntary assisted dying policy by considering what should happen if a person loses decision-making capacity after the final assessment stage of the voluntary assisted dying process. This issue is complex, sensitive and raises important human rights, legal and ethical questions.
To ensure this work reflects community values and evolving clinical practice, a citizens’ jury will be established to bring everyday Canberrans together, supported by close engagement with clinicians, legal experts, consumers, carers and advocacy groups.
The Health and Community Services Directorate is seeking a highly experienced leader to manage a small project team delivering the citizens' jury, alongside a contracted external provider.
The successful candidate will have experience leading teams delivering complex, sensitive policy matters, with exceptional communication and stakeholder skills, and the ability to maintain resilience and psychosocial safety while working with confronting stories and information. If you have led teams delivering complex outcomes under tight timelines and significant scrutiny, this may be the role for you.
Health and Community Services Directorate (HCSD) is an inclusive employer where all people are respected and valued for their contribution. We strongly encourage and welcome applications from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, People with Disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, mature age workers and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) people.

The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
