Accountant assistant

About the role

Gardiner Hall Accounting Pty Ltd is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accountant Assistant to join our growing team in Mile End SA. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in supporting our accounting operations and ensuring the smooth delivery of financial services to our clients. Working closely with our accountants, you'll assist with the preparation of financial records, tax compliance work, and day-to-day client administration.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of individual, partnership, company and trust tax returns.

• Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS).

• Assist with bookkeeping, bank reconciliations and payroll processing.

• Process superannuation and Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting.

• Prepare workpapers and supporting documentation.

• Maintain client records and accounting files.

• Liaise with clients to obtain information and documentation.

• Assist with ASIC compliance and general administrative tasks.

• Provide support to senior accountants as required.

What we're looking for

• Experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role (public practice experience is highly regarded).

• A Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, Diploma, or tertiary qualification in accounting (completed or in progress).

• Knowledge of Australian taxation and GST principles.

• Experience using Xero, MYOB and Microsoft Office.

• Experience using BGL software is desirable but not essential.

• Experience preparing financial statements and tax returns.

• Exposure to SMSF accounting and compliance is desirable.

• Confidence in meeting with clients and providing professional client service.

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
