About the role
As the automotive industry continues its transition towards zero-emission vehicles, Volgren is at the forefront of designing and manufacturing Australia's next generation of electric buses. We are seeking an experienced Automotive Electrical Team Leader to join our Eagle Farm manufacturing facility and play a key role in leading our electrical team through this exciting period of growth and innovation.
This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone who is passionate about developing people, driving quality outcomes, and fostering a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement. You will lead by example, providing technical guidance, coaching and support to your team while ensuring electrical installations meet the highest standards of workmanship and compliance.
Working closely with Production, Engineering and Quality teams, you will proactively identify recurring issues, contribute to root cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions that improve product quality, productivity and customer satisfaction.
This permanent full-time position offers a 9-day fortnight and is paid in accordance with our Enterprise Agreement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESLead, mentor and develop the Automotive Electrical team, promoting a culture of safety, quality, teamwork and accountability.
Provide day-to-day leadership, technical coaching and support to team members.
Build team capability by identifying training needs and sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
Set clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback to support individual and team development.
Promote continuous improvement by encouraging employee involvement in problem solving and process improvements.
Work collaboratively with Production Leaders, Engineering and Quality teams to achieve manufacturing objectives.
Escalate recurring production or quality concerns and contribute to root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions.
Lead by example in demonstrating company values, safe work practices and professional conduct.
Support and guide the installation, inspection, maintenance and testing of electrical wiring, electronic systems and components during bus manufacture.
Diagnose complex electrical and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
Ensure repairs, upgrades and installations are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
Verify electrical systems through testing, calibration and commissioning activities.
Install and commission vehicle electrical equipment, accessories and electronic control systems.
Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, quality standards and customer requirements.
Assist with troubleshooting production issues and provide practical technical solutions.
Coordinate replacement of defective electrical components including wiring, alternators, generators, voltage regulators, starter motors and associated systems.
Ensure correct use and maintenance of electrical tools, testing equipment and specialised diagnostic equipment.
Order and manage electrical parts and consumables as required.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, testing and repairs in accordance with company procedures.
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with WHS requirements, electrical standards and company policies.
Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience within an automotive electrical, heavy vehicle or manufacturing environment.
Trade qualification as an Automotive Electrician (preferred) or significant electrical experience within the automotive industry.
Strong technical knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, diagnostics and fault finding.
Proven ability to coach, mentor and develop others.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to quality workmanship, continuous improvement and workplace safety.
Experience working within Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement environments will be highly regarded.
Experience with electric vehicles or high-voltage systems is advantageous, however training will be provided for the right candidate.
