The Watershed values reliability, teamwork, and a positive attitude, creating a supportive workplace for culinary professionals who take pride in their craft.Role Description The Chef is a casual ,on-site role based at The Watershed Cafe and Function Centre in Mawson Lakes, SA. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and preparing menu items, cooking and presenting dishes to a high standard, and ensuring food quality and consistency during both café service and functions. The Chef manages food preparation timelines, coordinates with kitchen and front-of-house team members, and supports menu changes or special event requirements as needed. The role includes maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen, following food safety and hygiene standards, overseeing stock rotation, and assisting with ordering to control costs and minimize waste. The Chef is also expected to help train and mentor kitchen staff, contribute ideas for menu development, and work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, based on business needs.QualificationsProfessional cooking skills, including food preparation, cooking techniques, and plate presentation suitable for café service and function catering.Experience with menu planning, portion control, and basic cost awareness to support efficient and profitable kitchen operations.Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene regulations, and safe kitchen practices, with commitment to maintaining a clean and compliant workspace.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple orders and event requirements while maintaining quality and timing.Team-oriented mindset, with clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house staff.Previous experience as a Chef or Cook in a café, restaurant, or function venue; experience with catering or events is highly regarded.Culinary qualifications or trade certification in commercial cookery are preferred but equivalent experience will be considered.Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and evenings as required.
