Assistant Minister

Our church

Good Shepherd Anglican Church is a flourishing evangelical church in the geographical centre of Canberra. We are a multi-congregational parish located at the northern end of the Woden Valley, five minutes’ drive from Parliament House. At our Curtin site we have four regular Sunday congregations, including one in Karen language, as well as a recently planted congregation next to the National Triangle in Barton.

We have recently appointed a new Rector and are preparing for a new season of growth and development, and are seeking a new Assistant Minister to join us in our mission serving our community and the nation’s capital.

Key roles and responsibilities

Under God, we would like to be able to shape the role around the skills and gifts of the successful candidate, but overall responsibilities would include the following:

Congregational oversight and pastoral care

Regular preaching as part of a preaching team across our Sunday services

Empowering church members for ministry

Supporting the welcoming and integration of newcomers

Providing Pastoral care to congregation members

Providing Pastoral Services – baptisms, funerals, weddings - as required

Oversight of specific ministry areas, in consultation with the Rector

Shaping the future

Contributing to strategic leadership of the Parish with the Rector, Staff and Parish Council

Developing initiatives for evangelism, discipleship and leadership development within the Parish alongside the Rector and Staff team

Character & Skills

We are looking for a candidate who:

Sincerely and faithfully follows Jesus

Faithfully and skillfully teaches the Bible

Has strong theological formation and evangelical convictions

Has an evangelistic heart

Has experience building and leading ministry teams

Has experience and enjoys developing new leaders

Works collaboratively and leads with humility

Works effectively across cultures

Is an ordained Anglican minister or is open to pursuing ordination
