Link Powdercoating Group Pty Ltd Position Summary Link Powder Coating is seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design, operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of its mechanical equipment and process plant. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for analysing mechanical systems, developing engineering specifications, coordinating machinery installation and commissioning, improving equipment performance and implementing engineering solutions to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the company's manufacturing operations. The position will work closely with production, maintenance, suppliers and management to ensure mechanical plant and equipment operate safely and effectively.

Task & responsibilities Key Duties and Responsibilities Design, review and improve mechanical systems, machinery, components and production equipment used in powder coating, metal finishing, fabrication and associated manufacturing operations. Develop engineering specifications and determine appropriate equipment, materials, mechanical components, capacities, material flows and plant layouts for new and existing production systems.
Analyse the performance of mechanical plant and production machinery, including coating lines, ovens, conveyor systems, spray systems, ventilation systems and material-handling equipment, and recommend engineering improvements. Plan and coordinate the installation, assembly, commissioning, modification and upgrading of mechanical machinery and process plant. Prepare and review engineering drawings, equipment layouts, technical specifications and other mechanical engineering documentation for plant modifications and improvement projects.
Inspect mechanical plant and machinery to assess operating performance, identify mechanical faults and determine requirements for repairs, modifications or engineering improvements. Investigate equipment failures, recurring mechanical faults and production-related technical problems using engineering analysis and root-cause investigation and implement appropriate corrective solutions. Establish and maintain engineering standards and procedures for the installation, modification, testing, inspection, quality control and maintenance of mechanical plant and equipment.
Develop and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance programs and schedules to improve equipment reliability, minimise unplanned downtime and maintain optimum plant performance. Evaluate existing machinery and mechanical systems and recommend modifications, replacement equipment or new technologies to improve production capacity, reliability, energy efficiency and product quality. Conduct technical assessments of production equipment and processes to improve equipment utilisation, material flow and overall mechanical efficiency.
Coordinate mechanical engineering projects involving machinery upgrades, new equipment and plant modifications, including liaison with suppliers, contractors and internal production personnel. Provide technical engineering support and guidance to production and maintenance personnel regarding machinery operation, equipment faults, modifications and maintenance requirements. Conduct and oversee equipment testing and commissioning and verify that newly installed or modified machinery operates in accordance with engineering specifications.
Monitor mechanical equipment performance and maintain technical records relating to equipment specifications, inspections, maintenance and engineering modifications. Ensure mechanical engineering activities, machinery installations and plant modifications comply with applicable Australian Standards, Work Health and Safety requirements and manufacturer specifications. Prepare technical reports, engineering recommendations, equipment specifications, maintenance schedules and supporting engineering documentation.
Provide engineering input into future plant improvements, machinery acquisitions, equipment upgrades and expansion of production capabilities. Qualification & experience Skills and Experience Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Sound knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and their application within manufacturing and process-plant environments.
Experience in mechanical plant, industrial machinery, manufacturing equipment or process systems of minimum 1 year. Strong understanding of mechanical equipment installation, commissioning, testing, inspection and maintenance. Ability to interpret and prepare engineering drawings, equipment layouts, technical specifications and engineering documentation.
Strong analytical, technical problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills. Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance practices and equipment reliability principles. Understanding of manufacturing processes, material-handling systems and industrial production equipment.
Knowledge of applicable Australian Standards, WHS requirements and machinery safety requirements. Strong organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage equipment upgrades and engineering improvement activities. Effective communication skills and the ability to liaise with management, production teams, maintenance personnel, suppliers and contractors.
