About the role
About the Role
You will work directly with builders, contractors, schools, training providers & government to open up career pathways, grow the apprentice pipeline and get more Tasmanians into building & construction.
Everything we do at MBT starts with our members. This role exists because our members have told us, over and over, that one of their biggest handbrakes is finding good people. Your job is to go and fix that for them.
You will also be part of the work Tasmanians are already hearing about, including the High Vis Army campaign designed to build the workforce of the future.
There is potential to lead a small team as the program grows.
This is a hands on, out of the office, statewide role, but primarily, the successful candidate will be based in the State's south working from our state-of-the-art training facility in Cambridge.
What You Will Be Doing
Co-designing & delivering practical workforce & pathways programs that respond to what the industry actually needs right now
Getting out to our members, on their sites and in their offices, to understand their workforce pressures & where the opportunities are
Working with schools, career advisers & training providers to sell building & construction as a career worth having
Building the pipeline so the people arriving at our members' doors are ready to start work
Finding new ways to attract people to the industry & to keep them in it, including groups the industry has not traditionally reached
Building partnerships across employers, government, education providers & industry
Pitching in across the broader MBT team on training & industry projects.
What You Will Bring
A Certificate III trade qualificaiton in a recognised building or construction trade, or a higher construction industry qualification
Real, substantial experience in the building & construction industry
A solid understanding of where the industry is struggling for people & what skills it needs next
The ability to build relationships & hold a room, whether it is a site shed, a school hall or a bureaucrat's office
Confidence dealing with employers, tradies, schools, government and industry
A positive attitude, a problem-solving mindset & a willingness to roll up your sleeves & get the job done
A proactive & organised approach, with the ability to juggle competing priorities
The ability to run your own diary & your own projects while working as part of a team
How We Work at MBT
MBT is a members first organisation. Our members are builders & contractors running real business under real pressure & they judge us on one thing; whether we make a practical difference to them. Every program you build needs to pass that test.
We are a small team and we back each other in.
Anyone who joins us needs to be positive, a problem solver & willing to roll up their sleeves & get the job done. If something needs doing, we do it.
Nice to Have, But Not Deal Breakers
A Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, or experience with an RTO or GTO, will be looked on favourably. What matters more to us is that you care about this industry & want to see it grow.
What We Can & Cannot Teach
We can teach you how to design a program & how to stand up and present. We can support you to get qualifications as part of your professional development.
What we cannot teach, is genuine industry experience, credibility with the people you will be dealing with & a real passion for building the next generation of our workforce. That part has to come from you.
The Practical Bits
Frequent statewide travel is a core part of this role. You will need to hold & maintain a current driver's license, White Card & Registration to Work with Vulnerable People for the duration of your employment.
Please note: A relevant building or construction trade qualification is an essential requirement. Applications without it will not be considered.
Applications close Monday 14th September, 2026.
Master Builders Tasmania is an Employer of Choice & an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to an inclusive workplace, free from discrimination & harassment, where everyone is treated with dignity & respect.
