Join a high-performing team responsible for supervising providers of critical financial market infrastructure and managing risks to the continued provision of cash distribution services. We are looking for motivated people with experience in one or more of the following areas:

• public policy or regulation, particularly relating to critical infrastructure
  
• supervision of entities in the financial system, including banking, financial markets, post-trade, superannuation or other financial services providers
  
• economic analysis, particularly in relation to the financial system
  
• financial markets or payments.

About the team

The Clearing and Settlement Supervision Section is part of the RBA's Payments Policy Department. It is responsible for oversight and supervision of entities that provide critical financial market infrastructure underpinning the majority of financial market transactions in Australia. The Section is also developing strategies to manage risks to the continued provision of critical cash distribution services.

The Payments Policy Department is responsible for the RBA's payments system policy, regulatory and oversight functions. We help the RBA meet its objectives of promoting competition and efficiency, improving the safety and resilience of the payments system and safeguarding the stability of Australia's financial system.


About the role

We have opportunities related to both supervision of financial and operational risks at clearing and settlement facilities, and policy development related to the cash distribution industry. Successful candidates will initially work in one of these areas, with opportunities to contribute across the team over time.

Your role could include:

• analysing complex issues affecting the safety and resilience of Australia's payments and financial systems
  
• developing policy and supervisory responses to identified risks
  
• strengthening crisis preparedness related to critical cash distribution services and financial market infrastructure
  
• engaging with regulated entities, industry participants, and other stakeholders
  
• collaborating with other areas of the RBA and government agencies.
  
• communicating advice on policy and supervisory priorities to the RBA's leadership team and the RBA's Payments System Board

About you

To be successful you will have:

• excellent critical thinking skills to assess information, identify patterns and develop policy or supervisory responses to complex issues
  
• the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and with other government agencies
  
• the willingness to speak up where you see issues, including to communicate expectations to regulated entities
  
• outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  
• good organisational and time management skills, including an ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
  
• previous experience in regulatory or policy development roles would be desirable
