About the role. (Part time, Casual, Contract or possibly Full Time for the right person)
The Parts Interpreter / Inventory Controller is responsible for the efficient management of parts, stock and inventory within the mechanical business. The position provides accurate and timely parts identification, sourcing and ordering to support workshop operations, while maintaining appropriate stock levels, accurate inventory records and cost control. The role requires a strong understanding of mechanical parts and components, excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively with technicians, suppliers, customers and management.
Key responsibilities
Identify and interpret mechanical parts, components and consumables required for repairs, servicing and maintenance
Assist technicians and workshop staff in identifying the correct parts for vehicles, machinery and equipment
Use manufacturer catalogues, parts databases, online systems and supplier resources to identify parts
Confirm part numbers, specifications, compatibility and quantities before ordering
Obtain pricing and availability from approved suppliers and place purchase orders
Monitor outstanding orders and source parts promptly to meet workshop scheduling requirements
Maintain accurate inventory records within the company's inventory/workshop management system
Receive, check and process incoming stock against purchase orders and supplier invoices
Conduct regular stocktakes and investigate discrepancies
Work closely with mechanics and workshop supervisors to ensure parts are available when required
