About the role

O'Brien Electrical Engineering & Contractors Ballarat is seeking experienced professionals to fill three full-time positions:

Service & Maintenance A-Grade Electrician,

Project A-Grade Electrician,

and HV Cable Joiner & Commissioning Technician.

We take pride in providing consistent service, project delivery, and preventative maintenance across a wide variety of sectors, including:

• Power & Utilities: Power generation, transmission, and High Voltage (HV) environments and Water Authorities

• Heavy Industrial & Manufacturing: FMCG, grain handling facilities, and general manufacturing.

• Commercial & Regional Projects: Broad-scale industrial automation, plant upgrades, and custom fit-outs.

Key roles

Service & Maintenance A-Grade Electrician:

• Execute routine and preventative electrical maintenance across industrial manufacturing, FMCG, and utility facilities

• Provide scheduled and on-call shift cover to support continuous client operations and respond to urgent breakdowns

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex electrical systems, switchboards, variable speed drives, and MCCs

• Perform compliance checks, thermal imaging, and testing to meet ISO safety and quality standards

Project A-Grade Electrician:

• Deliver high-quality electrical installations for small-to-large industrial projects, factory fit-outs, and switchboard replacements

• Lead planned shutdown works, major plant overhauls, and site upgrades across manufacturing and grain handling plants

• Provide rapid fault response and emergency troubleshooting to minimise client downtime

• Install, wire, and terminate submains, cable trays, control wiring, and automation components from schematic drawings

HV Cable Joiner & Commissioning Technician:

• Perform high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) cable joining, splicing, and terminations across diverse cable types

• Execute fault location and diagnostics across complex industrial networks using specialist test gear

• Perform testing and commissioning of HV apparatus (primary/secondary injection testing, VLF and AC Hipot, partial discharge, earthing systems)

• Conduct site inspections and generate comprehensive technical reports for clients and supply authorities

About you

• Relevant trade qualifications (Victorian A-Grade Electrical Licence or recognised Cable Joiner / HV qualifications)

• Valid Australian Driver's Licence and Construction Induction Card (White Card)

• Demonstrated experience relevant to the specific role applied for (Industrial maintenance, Project installations, or HV apparatus testing)

• Strong understanding of Australian and international testing standards (e.g., IEEE 400.2)

• Strong commitment to safety protocols under ISO 45001 standards and clear communication skills

• HV Operating Authority accreditation, PLC troubleshooting, or specialised industrial experience is highly regarded
