Shift Supervisor - Battery Recycling

Join the dynamic team as a Shift Supervisor and take the lead in operating a cutting-edge lithium-ion battery recycling demonstration plant in Kewdale, Perth. This is a rare opportunity to build expertise in chemical or metallurgical processing within a first-of-its-kind, deep-tech manufacturing environment at the forefront of battery recycling.

In this hands-on leadership role, you will provide day-to-day supervision and direction to operators, ensuring safe, efficient, and coordinated plant operations across rotating 12-hour day and night shifts. You will lead pre-starts, manage permits and isolations, and ensure full compliance with all site safety procedures.

You will be responsible for overseeing plant equipment operation via SCADA systems, coordinating plant start-ups and shutdowns, and working closely with laboratory and maintenance teams to maintain seamless processing activities. Your strong understanding of plant safety systems, shift-based work, and control room operations will be critical to your success.

Drawing on your proven supervisory experience in industrial or manufacturing environments, you will act as the primary point of escalation for operational issues, communicate effectively during shift handovers, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Your calm, practical, and safety-focused approach to problem solving and decision-making under time pressure will directly impact the success of this commercially significant operation.

• Provide day-to-day supervision and direction to operators during assigned shifts.
• Oversee safe operation of plant equipment in accordance with operating procedures.
• Coordinate start-ups, shutdowns, and process transitions during the shift.
• Lead by example in safety behaviours and compliance with site procedures.
• Conduct pre-starts, toolbox talks, and shift handovers.
• Monitor plant performance and operating conditions via the site SCADA system.
• Ensure accurate completion of shift logs, handover notes, and basic reporting.
• Work closely with laboratory technicians to ensure timely sampling and communication of results.
• Coordinate with maintenance for breakdown response, isolation, and safe return to service.
• Act as the primary point of escalation for operational issues during the shift.
• Support process trials, campaigns, and changes under the direction of technical and management staff.
• Provide practical feedback on operability, procedures, and plant behaviour.

• Full Australian working rights with availability to work rotating 4-on/4-off, 12-hour day and night shifts.
• Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or senior operator role within industrial processing or manufacturing environments.
• Proven experience as a control room operator with strong SCADA system operation and monitoring capabilities.
• Comprehensive understanding of plant operations, safety systems, and shift-based work in 24/7 operational environments.
• Practical leadership skills with the ability to supervise small teams, allocate tasks effectively, and manage workload distribution.
• Calm and composed under pressure with strong problem-solving abilities when managing operational issues during time-critical situations.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear direction, conduct effective handovers, and escalate issues appropriately.
• Strong safety focus with demonstrated commitment to leading by example in safety behaviours and compliance with site procedures.
• Experience coordinating with maintenance teams for breakdown response, isolation procedures, and safe return to service.
• Ability to work collaboratively with laboratory technicians and technical staff to ensure coordinated plant operations.
• Experience in chemical or metallurgical processing environments is highly desirable.
• Exposure to demonstration plants, pilot plants, or commissioning activities would be advantageous.
• First Aid certification, Permit Issuer qualification, or similar site leadership training is desirable.
• Practical mindset with the ability to provide operational feedback and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Competent in completing shift logs, handover notes, and basic reporting with attention to detail and accuracy.
