Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Worker

Jarrah House is a small healthcare facility (alcohol and other drug rehabilitation) with mums and children living on-site. We are looking for an AOD worker to be part of the team to ensure culturally safe treatment for women being supported to deal with their Alcohol and Other Drug use.

This role involves a variety of activities including:

• Collaborating with clinical staff to deliver culturally safe health and psychosocial support
• Supporting clients with daily routines, paperwork and appointments
• Facilitating group programs
• Liaising with ACCOs, health providers and community to connect clients with appropriate services and care
• Assisting with data collection and maintaining client records

You’ll be a consistent, trusted presence for women as they work toward their therapeutic goals, providing clients with the practical and cultural foundations to make that journey possible.

About You

This role is well suited to someone who is collaborative, reliable and genuinely committed to empowering women during detoxification and rehabilitation.

You’ll bring:

• AOD and/or perinatal skills
• Experience providing practical day-to-day and psychosocial support to clients in a residential or community setting
• Competence in culturally safe practice, including experience working respectfully with women, families and community organisations
• Experience maintaining client records and applying policies and procedures
• An ability to maintain professional boundaries when supporting vulnerable people.

Essential Requirements

• Have completed or be working towards a Certificate III in Community Services or Certificate IV in AOD
• Ability to collaborate effectively in an integrated service model
• The right to live and work in Australia
• Criminal Record Check clearance
• Working with Children Check clearance
• Evidence of Covid-19 and Whooping cough vaccinations
• Valid driver’s licence for a motor vehicle and willingness to drive for work
• Identify as a woman – we have an exemption from sections 25 and 51 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 to advertise, designate and recruit women only in all positions that work directly with, or are in regular contact with clients.

What We Do

Jarrah House is the residential rehabilitation location for the Women’s Alcohol and Drug Advisory Centre Incorporated (WADAC), a Non-Government Organisation providing services in withdrawal management, rehabilitation and individual and group counselling, and services to improve the wellbeing and health outcomes of families and carers, and the people they support.

The voluntary admission Residential Rehabilitation Centre in South-East Sydney, Jarrah House, is a place of care and compassion for women experiencing drug and alcohol dependence. A ‘women’s only service’, it is one of a small group of restricted-entry services and the only one in NSW providing in-house residential withdrawal management and Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) participation with dependent children also in residence.

The role reports to the Nurse Manager and can be part-time or full-time, including night and weekend work.
