General Practitioner – Telehealth Smoking Cessation

About the role

This is a work-from-home position for a General Practitioner to join Kicko's clinical team in a highly flexible capacity. The role involves reviewing comprehensive nursing assessments and relevant patient clinical information, determining the clinical appropriateness of prescribing, and prescribing therapeutic nicotine products where clinically indicated and legally permissible. The commitment is approximately 1 hour per day, Monday to Friday, with highly flexible hours that may be completed during the day or evening by arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Reviewing comprehensive nursing assessments and relevant patient clinical information

• Determining the clinical appropriateness of prescribing

• Prescribing therapeutic nicotine products where clinically indicated and legally permissible

• Prescribing through applicable TGA pathways, including the Authorised Prescriber Scheme and/or Special Access Scheme, where required

• Determining appropriate nicotine strength, formulation, quantity and treatment duration within the context of an individualised smoking cessation plan

• Reviewing cases where escalation, titration, reduction or other medical input is required

• Maintaining appropriate clinical documentation and prescribing records within MedicalDirector Helix

• Working collaboratively with the Kicko registered nursing team

• Supporting safe, evidence-informed and patient-centred smoking cessation care

• Practising in accordance with applicable RACGP guidance, Medical Board of Australia/AHPRA standards, TGA requirements and relevant Commonwealth, state and territory legislation

About you

• Current unrestricted registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA

• Appropriate professional indemnity insurance

• Strong understanding of safe prescribing and medication management

• High standards of clinical documentation and governance

• A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care

• An interest in smoking cessation, nicotine dependence and preventive healthcare

• Willingness and eligibility to prescribe therapeutic nicotine vaping products through relevant TGA pathways where clinically appropriate

Kicko is an Australian smoking cessation service providing structured, clinically governed support to patients seeking to reduce nicotine dependence and ultimately cease tobacco use. Our model of care is nurse and doctor led, with an emphasis on evidence-based smoking cessation management, appropriate clinical review and responsible prescribing. The service is designed to operate in accordance with relevant RACGP smoking cessation guidance, Medical Board of Australia/AHPRA professional standards and Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) requirements.
