A new cocktail program that’s doing things a little differently has opened in Melbourne. Liar Liar, with the spirit of Japan, and a forward thinking, highly experimental approach to cocktails. We’ll be tapping into the rich culture that Japan has to offer, whilst balancing familiar flavours in a modern setting.

Our aim is to celebrate the depth and richness of both cultures while presenting familiar flavours through a modern, refined lens.

Central to our identity is a commitment to sustainability and ethicality. Every beverage we serve must meet defined standards of responsibility—whether that’s ensuring tequila producers support their workers and communities or partnering with distilleries and wineries that meaningfully repurpose their waste. Considerable care has gone into building a beverage program that feels good to serve, good to drink, and good for the world around us. We believe in uplifting the makers who are already paving the way for positive change.

Liar Liar will be innovative, collaborative, and proudly a little whacky!In essence, there's two creative philosophies to Liar Liar. Forward thinking in our approach with an experimental cocktail lab working in the background. Our team will be working with Air distillation, fermentation, washing, and a range of advanced techniques that excites us passionate nerdy bartenders.Then there's our casual crafted classics, where we release popular and a little more obscure classics that we love, done the Liar Liar way.Alongside this, we will be rolling out structured learning modules, product knowledge sessions, bar takeovers and masterclasses. We are committed to building a team that supports one another, learns together, and creates an environment where both staff and guests feel genuinely looked after. Our beverage offering is intricate yet joyful—well suited to those with a solid cocktail background, as well as fast, dedicated bartenders who are eager to grow their skills behind the bar.

Our focus is our guests. To spark their curiosity and provide a genuine, earnest experience, we're inviting our guests to be open minded and to try something new.

What We’re Looking For — The Essentials

• A strong Barback eager to get their foot in the door and earn your way as a cocktial bartender
• Assistant to the bar team, polishing glasses, restocking ice etc
• A genuine interest in sustainability and ethicality.
• Strong enthusiasm for creative exploration within cocktails, supported by a team that will help guide and develop your ideas.
• A naturally curious, forward-thinking mindset.
• A collaborative, humble approach—someone eager to learn and contribute without ego.
• The ability to bring positive energy to service while maintaining efficiency, consistency and professionalism. We’re all about having fun, with our colleagues and our guests!
• A minimum of 2 years experience in a cocktail-focused environment (shortlisted applicants will complete a skills assessment)

Pay: $27.00 – $38.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10.0 – 20.0 per week
