Manager, Communication and Engagement

Reporting to the CEO, the Manager, Communication and Engagement leads strategic communication, stakeholder engagement and delivery of government-funded grant activities for Deafness Forum Australia. The role translates complex policy, health and sector information into clear, accessible content; manages grant commitments, reporting and budgets; and builds productive relationships with government, community, health-sector and media stakeholders. Through publications, social media, consultation and media engagement, the position strengthens national advocacy and supports better communication access, participation and hearing health outcomes for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing or live with chronic ear disorders, and their families.

Deafness Forum Australia is seeking an experienced Manager, Communication and Engagement to lead communication and engagement activities associated with government-funded grants and help strengthen our national advocacy. Reporting to the CEO, you will turn complex information into clear, accessible content, build productive stakeholder relationships and ensure grant commitments are delivered and communicated effectively.

·        Lead delivery and communication of activities in Grant Agreements and Activity Work Plans.

·        Manage grant timelines, reporting obligations, performance indicators and communication commitments.

·        Plan and deliver accessible, inclusive consultation with members, the health sector, community and the Australian Government.

·        Serve as a central contact for grant-related enquiries and stakeholder feedback.

·        Develop and deliver media engagement activity that supports systemic priorities, builds awareness of D/deafness and hearing loss, and highlights barriers to social inclusion.

·        Translate sector knowledge, health information and policy into clear, accessible content for varied audiences.

·        Monitor communication reach, accessibility and effectiveness, and prepare high-quality reports for the Commonwealth.

·        Plan and document communication and project budgets in line with contracts and internal approval processes.

·        Write, coordinate and distribute the monthly One in Five publication.

·        Manage organisational social media and respond proactively to media opportunities and enquiries.

·        Demonstrated experience leading strategic communication, stakeholder engagement or consultation programs.

·        Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to make complex information clear, accurate and accessible.

·        Experience managing projects, grants, contracts or funded programs, including reporting and performance monitoring.

·        Confidence working with government, community, health-sector and media stakeholders.

·        Sound judgement, organisation and attention to detail across competing deadlines.

·        A practical commitment to accessibility, inclusion and respectful engagement with people with lived experience.

·        Experience with media relations, publications and social media channels.

·        Budget awareness and the ability to document proposed expenditure clearly.

·        Fully remote work and a 34-hour week.
