About the role
Animal Referral Hospital Canberra is seeking an experienced and highly capable Hospital Manager to lead the operational management of one of the region’s busiest specialist and emergency veterinary hospitals.
ARH Canberra provides 24/7 emergency and specialist veterinary care across emergency, medicine, surgery and critical care. Our hospital is supported by a highly skilled team of specialists, emergency veterinarians, nurses and support staff committed to delivering exceptional patient care.
We are looking for a practical, people-focused leader who can support our clinical teams, ensure the hospital runs smoothly day-to-day, and help drive a positive, collaborative culture.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who enjoys working closely with clinical teams while managing the operational complexity of a busy hospital environment.
About the Role
The Hospital Manager is responsible for the overall operational leadership of the hospital, ensuring the team is supported, systems run efficiently, and patients receive outstanding care.
Working closely with the Business Manager, clinical leadership team and Greencross support teams, the Hospital Manager will oversee staffing, workflow, service delivery, and operational performance.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading and supporting nursing, clinical, reception and support teams
• Managing day-to-day hospital operations and patient flow
• Workforce planning, rostering and staffing sustainability
• Supporting a safe, positive and collaborative workplace culture
• Ensuring efficient clinical workflow between emergency and referral services
• Supporting performance management, training and staff development
• Driving service improvements and operational efficiencies
• Maintaining high standards of patient care and client experience
• Working with the leadership team on operational planning and hospital initiatives
About You
We are looking for someone who is calm under pressure, highly organised, and comfortable leading teams in a fast-paced clinical environment.
You will likely have experience managing complex healthcare or veterinary environments, with a strong focus on people leadership and operational performance.
Ideal experience includes:
• Previous experience managing a veterinary hospital, medical clinic, or healthcare facility (desirable)
• Strong leadership and team development skills
• Experience managing rostering, staffing and workforce planning
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy hospital environment
• Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
• Experience improving processes and operational workflows
• Financial and operational awareness
Veterinary and/or Human industry experience is highly desirable, but not essential for the right candidate with relevant healthcare or hospital leadership experience.
Why Join ARH Canberra?
• Work alongside highly respected specialists and emergency clinicians
• Be part of a collaborative leadership team
• Opportunity to shape and improve how a busy referral hospital operates
• Access to Greencross professional development and leadership support
• Competitive salary package
Most importantly, you will play a key role in supporting a team that saves animal lives every day.
