Disability Support Workers - Wollongong (Females)

Our client is a lovely older lady living with severe intellectual disability. She is warm and easy to get along with when supported by calm, familiar staff who take the time to understand her routine. She is physically mobile with a 4-wheeled walker and can transfer independently, but she requires prompting, supervision and hands-on assistance across almost every part of her day, including personal care, meal preparation, medication, cleaning and community access.
She does best with consistent, patient support workers who use simple, single-step instructions, gentle redirection, and visual cues. Falls prevention, healthy meal encouragement, and dignified support with hygiene will be central to the role.

  
About the Role: 

This is a female-only role. Being female is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 30 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth), given the nature of intimate personal care our client requires.
You will support our client across a 24/7 SIL model, working across morning routines, community access, appointments, meal preparation, evening settling and inactive sleepover shifts. You will work alongside a small dedicated household team and be supported by our clinical and rostering functions.

About You: 

• Minimum 2 years of experience in the disability sector. 
• High physical support experience (manual handling, mobility support)
• Experience supporting intellectual disability or cognitive impairment and progressive neurological conditions (Huntington’s, Parkinson’s, MND, dementia-equivalent profiles) highly desirable.
• Strong mealtime management / dysphagia awareness (trained or willing to be trained)
• Experience in high-risk SIL environments with full ADL support
• Ability to recognise and respond to clinical deterioration and escalation triggers.
• Valid CPR & First Aid certificates.
• Minimum Certificate III Disability or similar/higher. 
• Empathy for the issues facing people with a disability. 
• Highly organised and proactive. 
• NDIS workers check.
• NSW Driver’s License (or similar) plus own car is desirable.
