About the role
Do you want to shape the strategic direction of an organisation with genuine national reach and influence, at a time when consumer protection matters more than ever? We are looking for a new Non-Executive Board Director (NED) to join the CHOICE Board. CHOICE is Australia’s leading consumer advocacy group, providing information and advice free from commercial bias since 1959. Our purpose is to fight for fair, just and safe markets that meet the needs of Australian consumers, and everything we do is built on our three values of Truth, Help and Impact. About the RoleThis role will work alongside the Chairs, fellow Directors, the CEO and the CHOICE Executive team to oversee CHOICE’s governance, strategy and long-term sustainability, and help ensure we deliver to our purpose. This is a voluntary position, Board-related expenses are covered but there is no remuneration attached to the role. As Non-Executive Board Director, you will take on the full statutory responsibilities of the role under the Corporations Act, alongside CHOICE’s Constitution and Board Charter. In practice this means:Safeguarding CHOCIE’s purpose and values Overseeing the organisations’ financial sustainability and development Approving and monitoring strategic direction Managing organisation-wide risk Contributing to effective board governance Overseeing ESG mattersUpholding strong corporate governance standardsAbout youYou have strong experience in consumer policy and campaigning, and in strategies to address the needs of communities that are at particular risk of exploitation, especially in relation to their consumer rights.
