After 19 wonderful years with Living Legends, our much-loved Baker and Food Preparation Attendant is retiring, and we are excited to welcome someone new to our team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and creative individual who enjoys baking, preparing fresh food, and working in a unique environment surrounded by retired champion racehorses.

Whether you're a recent Certificate III in Baking graduate looking to develop your skills, or someone with café baking and food preparation experience wanting greater independence in the kitchen, we'd love to hear from you.

About Us
Living Legends is a non-for-profit organisation that brings together the community and retired champion racehorses. Set on a beautiful property just a short drive from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport, our peaceful countryside property is open to visitors who come to meet the horses, enjoy the history of the homestead, explore the gardens and connect with the stories of racing history.

At the heart of it all is our small homestead style café – a place where guests can relax over a coffee, scone or light meal while soaking up the views and watching the legends roam in the paddocks nearby. We pride ourselves on warm hospitality, homemade treats and making every visit feel special.

About the Role
Full Time | Thursday – Sunday | Daytime Hours Only

This is a varied, hands-on role that combines kitchen preparation with front-of-house café service. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of our daily food preparation while also interacting with visitors and contributing to the welcoming atmosphere of our Homestead Café.

 our responsibilities will include:

Kitchen & Food Preparation

• Baking our famous homemade scones and preparation of other sweet items.

• Preparing fresh café items for the display cabinet, including sandwiches, wraps, toasties and salads.

• Preparing light refreshments such as pizzas, sausage rolls, quiches and other grab-and-go café favourites.

• Maintaining an attractive, well-stocked display cabinet.

• Assisting with menu ideas and having the freedom to introduce new seasonal items.

• Maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.

Café Service

• Preparing quality coffees and hot beverages.

• Serving customers in a friendly and professional manner.

• Operating the Point of Sale (POS) system and processing transactions.

• Heating and serving food throughout service.

• Restocking displays and ensuring the café presentation remains to a high standard.

• Delivering exceptional customer service to visitors from across Australia and overseas.

Functions & Events

• Assisting with the preparation and service of catering for functions and events.

• Supporting private bookings, corporate functions and community events held at Living Legends.

• Working collaboratively with the wider Living Legends team to deliver memorable visitor experiences.

Please note this is not a short-order kitchen. Food is prepared ahead of service for our display cabinets, allowing you to focus on quality preparation rather than cooking meals to order.

• A passion for baking and fresh food preparation.

• Certificate III in Baking (or currently completing), or equivalent café/kitchen experience.

• Barista experience (or willingness to learn).

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage your own preparation schedule.

• Creativity and pride in producing high-quality food.

• Excellent organisational and time management skills.

• Food Handling Certificate.

• RSA Certificate (or willingness to obtain).

• A positive, reliable and team-focused attitude.
