• Base salary $130k – 144k + applicable penalties

The Role 

ABC News is seeking an experienced and innovative Deputy Metro Editor to help lead our NSW Metro newsroom. Working closely with the NSW News Editor, you'll drive editorial decision-making, coordinate breaking news coverage and commission impactful journalism for audiences across digital, mobile and broadcast platforms. 

This leadership role is ideal for an accomplished newsroom professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has exceptional editorial judgement and is passionate about delivering engaging, audience-focused journalism. 

The Job 

• Drive editorial decision-making and coordinate newsroom responses to breaking news and major events.  
• Commission, produce and oversee high-quality journalism across digital, mobile and broadcast platforms.  
• Lead collaboration with ABC News network desks and national teams to deliver comprehensive local and national coverage.  
• Use audience insights, analytics and data to inform editorial priorities and content strategies.  
• Provide leadership, coaching and feedback to newsroom staff, supporting a high-performing and collaborative culture.  
• Exercise editorial control to ensure content is accurate, impartial and aligned with ABC Editorial Policies.  
• Assist with newsroom planning, rostering and resource management to meet operational and editorial needs.

About You 

You are an experienced editorial leader with a strong track record of producing and commissioning outstanding journalism in a multi-platform news environment. 

You'll have:  

• Extensive experience in news production and editorial leadership across digital, mobile and broadcast platforms.  
• Proven ability to lead teams under pressure, make sound editorial decisions and drive coverage of breaking news.  
• Strong understanding of audience analytics and demonstrated success using data and insights to inform content strategy and editorial decision-making.
