About the role
Schulz Organic Dairy | Timboon, Victoria
Factory Manager
Make a real difference within a family owned and led organic dairy business in south-west Victoria.
About Schulz Organic Dairy
Based in Timboon in south-west Victoria, Schulz Organic Dairy produces premium organic dairy products with a strong focus on quality, sustainability and continuous improvement.
We are a growing, family-owned business spanning farming, manufacturing, distribution and hospitality, giving this role exposure to much more than a conventional factory environment.
This is an opportunity to take on a key operational position within the business and have a genuine influence over how our systems, people and production continue to develop.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys bringing together people, production, quality, systems and supply chain to keep a busy food manufacturing operation running safely, efficiently and reliably.
You’ll work closely with all department managers, taking ownership across day-to-day operations while helping us continue to improve the way we work.
We’re looking for someone who will enable the success of the strategic goals through leadership and collaboration whilst also being comfortable jumping into operations when required.
A bit about what will keep your day full
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the planning and coordination of daily production and dispatch activities
Helping manage labour requirements, rostering and efficient deployment of the production team
Monitoring operational costs, KPIs and production efficiency
Coordinating workflow to ensure production targets, specifications and timelines are achieved
Hands on maintenance, troubleshooting and training out solutions with your team
Maintaining and continually improving our Food Safety Program in collaboration with our QA / NPD manager.
Supporting compliance with DFSV, organic certification and other regulatory requirements
Assisting with internal and external audits
Overseeing stock levels, purchasing requirements and inward goods
Supporting quality testing, record keeping, shelf-life testing, customer complaints and corrective actions
Helping build and maintain a strong safety culture
Supporting training, development and performance of operational team members
Working with suppliers, contractors and equipment/service providers
Overseeing waste management, pest control and reusable packaging processes
Driving clearer systems, communication and standardised processes across all divisions of the business
Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, automation and operational performance
Most importantly, you’ll help us deliver an efficient and profitable operation without compromising product quality, food safety or the wellbeing of our people.
About you
We’re looking for an experienced operations leader who is practical, organised and comfortable taking responsibility.
Ideally, you will bring:
Significant experience in dairy production or food manufacturing management
Experience in an operations management or similar leadership role
Strong understanding of production and warehouse systems
Experience with inventory management and stock control
A sound understanding of food safety, compliance and audit requirements
Strong leadership and people-management skills
Excellent organisational and problem-solving ability
Confidence managing multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good computer and systems capability
A current driver’s licence
Forklift licence an advantage
Experience working within dairy, food manufacturing, laboratory environments or implementing automation and process improvements would be highly regarded.
What we’d love from you
Technical experience is important, but so is the way you work.
You’ll be someone who:
Takes ownership and follows things through
Communicates clearly and respectfully
Builds strong relationships across different teams
Remains calm when production priorities change
Looks for better ways of doing things
Is willing to get involved rather than simply manage from a desk
Understands that good operations come from good people, good systems and clear accountability
