Position Overview: 

The role of a Nursery Production Team Member (Nursery Hand) at Ellenby Tree Farm is integral to our tree farming operations. Production Team Members are responsible for various tasks related to plant production, maintenance, and organization, ensuring the health and vitality of trees and shrubs. This role plays a pivotal part in the overall success of our tree farming enterprise.

We seek an individual who is passionate about plants, possesses strong observational skills, and is committed to maintaining high-quality standards in our nursery. Their expertise not only contributes to our production, but also upholds the reputation of our nursery as a leader in advanced tree production. 

Responsibilities:

Transplanting and Potting: Carefully transplant trees and shrubs into larger bags or containers, adhering to production schedules and maintaining high-quality standards. Ensure precise handling and attention to detail throughout the potting process.

Irrigation Oversight: Monitor and adjust irrigation systems regularly to guarantee optimal water distribution for all plants, promoting their health and growth.

Plant Care and Maintenance: Prune and shape plants to encourage healthy growth, applying industry best practices to enhance plant quality and growth.

Inventory and Production Tracking: Follow daily work schedules, accurately recording production data (including plant quantities, conditions, and locations) to ensure proper tracking and inventory control.

Organizing Production Areas: Reorganize and optimize production spaces to improve space utilization and operational efficiency, while ensuring adherence to quality standards. Maintain a tidy, orderly environment that reflects our commitment to excellence.

Health and Safety Compliance: Follow all health and safety guidelines, wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times to ensure a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Previous experience in tree farming, nursery work, or a related field with a strong emphasis on quality.

• Vehicle drivers’ licence. 

• Forklift licence (desirable).

• Genuine enthusiasm for tree farming and horticulture, coupled with a strong commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards.

• Physical fitness and the capability to perform tasks that may involve lifting and moving objects weighing up to 25kg.

• Proficiency in operating heavy machinery and adherence to safety protocols (desirable).

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work and train with fellow teammates.
