Occupational Therapist, Grade 3 - Developmental Specialities

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Grade 3 Occupational Therapist to join our specialist FASD Service on a 0.4 EFT fixed-term basis until 30 June 2027. Based at Monash Children's Hospital, you'll primarily support the Aboriginal Child Assessment (ACA) Clinic, with clinics held in Frankston and travel across metropolitan Melbourne as required.

Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will provide advanced, culturally responsive occupational therapy assessment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with prenatal alcohol exposure and broader neurodevelopmental differences. Your work will focus on understanding each child's functional capacity, participation, regulation and everyday life skills, while partnering closely with families, community and other clinicians to achieve the best possible outcomes.

In this role, you will:

• Conduct comprehensive standardised occupational therapy assessments as part of multidisciplinary FASD diagnostic clinics.
• Contribute specialist clinical expertise to multidisciplinary formulation, diagnosis and recommendations in line with the Australian FASD Diagnostic Guidelines.
• Work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities in a culturally safe and strengths-based way.
• Support families to understand FASD as a brain-based disability and provide practical, meaningful strategies that build on family strengths and cultural practices.
• Contribute to service development, education, research and quality improvement initiatives while supporting students and colleagues through clinical education and supervision.

About the Service

The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Service, within Developmental Paediatrics at Monash Children's Hospital, provides specialist multidisciplinary assessments for children with prenatal alcohol exposure who present with complex neurodevelopmental and behavioural needs.

The service is committed to delivering culturally responsive, trauma-informed care and works closely with children, families and communities to support positive outcomes. Through the VicFAS Indigenous Clinic, we partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, embedding cultural knowledge, family strengths and community connection into every stage of assessment and care. Alongside clinical services, the team also provides education, training and support to health professionals and community services to build understanding of FASD across the sector.

About You

You are an experienced Occupational Therapist with current AHPRA registration and a passion for improving outcomes for children with complex developmental needs. You enjoy working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and are committed to providing culturally responsive, family-centred care.

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

• Extensive paediatric occupational therapy experience, ideally within early intervention, developmental, disability or child health settings.
• Strong skills in administering and interpreting standardised paediatric occupational therapy assessments.
• Experience working with children presenting with complex neurological, developmental and behavioural needs.
• Highly developed communication, leadership and collaborative practice skills.
• A commitment to culturally safe, evidence-based practice and continuous improvement through education, research and quality initiatives.
