Associate Producer - Dateline

This role is classified as a Level 2 role under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement (with a base salary range of $70,286 to $91,813). The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience and in alignment with this framework.

As a rostered shift worker, additional shift penalty payments may apply for work performed outside of ordinary hours, including weekends and public holidays, as per the SBS Enterprise Agreement (EA). SBS may also require you to work reasonable overtime, where overtime will be paid at applicable rates in accordance with the EA. 

The Role

The Associate Producer works on developing stories for the Dateline series. They provide support to Producers and Reporters for individual episodes, as well as digital content. The successful applicant is expected to have excellent research, journalistic and story development skills. They must be able to identify and pitch ideas that brings international current affairs to an Australian audience. 

Due to the nature of the work, this role may involve exposure to distressing or traumatic content. SBS provides support and wellbeing resources to employees working in these environments.

Key responsibilities include:

• Researching and shaping compelling pitches, briefs and scripts, ensuring stories are accurate, rigorous and relevant to Australian audiences.
• Creating engaging digital content that extends Dateline’s journalism across platforms, including researching and writing articles and creating social content in collaboration with the Digital Producer.
• Supporting Dateline Producers and Reporters with research and fact-checking. Helping secure access to organistations and talent locally and internationally.
• Working with fixers/local producers internationally providing research briefs and guiding their field research. 

About you

We’re looking for someone who brings:

• A proven background in journalism, with experience researching and developing long-form international current affairs stories for television.
• Strong expertise in researching, fact-checking and developing compelling story ideas, with the ability to identify stories that resonate with Australian audiences.
• Demonstrated success in preparing story pitches, briefs and scripts, and supporting productions from initial development through to edit and broadcast.
• Excellent knowledge of national and international current affairs, supported by strong contacts and highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• A collaborative, adaptable and resourceful approach, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and embrace new production technologies and digital storytelling.
• A second language is desirable not required.
