Management Accountant Lead

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced finance professional to join Council as our Management Accountant Lead. Reporting to the Manager Finance, you will lead Council's annual budget and performance reporting processes, provide strategic financial advice across the organisation, and oversee key functions including asset accounting, rates and payroll. Leading a team of three, you will play a key role in driving financial sustainability, continuous improvement and informed decision-making across Council. This is a 12-month fixed-term position providing parental leave cover. While we are seeking a full-time employee, part-time arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.

What You'll Do:

• Lead Council's annual budget preparation, forecasting and performance reporting processes.

• Provide strategic financial advice and insights to support organisational decision-making.

• Oversee asset accounting, valuation, depreciation, rates and payroll functions.

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of three finance professionals.

• Build strong partnerships with stakeholders across Council and provide specialist financial advice.

• Drive continuous improvement through contemporary systems, processes and reporting frameworks.

• Contribute to organisational projects and change initiatives that support Council's strategic objectives.

What You'll Bring:

• Qualifications in Accounting, providing eligibility for CPA Australia membership or equivalent.

• Extensive experience in budgeting, financial reporting and management accounting.

• Demonstrated leadership experience, including coaching and developing staff.

• Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and contemporary financial management practices.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.

• Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate and communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.

• Experience in TechnologyOne and/or local government will be highly regarded.
