Since being founded in 2019, EPEC has grown rapidly to become a trusted delivery partner on some of Australia’s most complex renewable energy projects, from 400MW solar farms and 200MW battery storage systems to 132kV substations delivered for international developers entering the Australian market for the first time. Founded by specialists in power system engineering, project delivery and generator compliance, our mission is to simplify the grid connection process and remove the uncertainty that costs projects time and money.

We manage connections to the national electricity market through end-to-end solutions, from pre-enquiry through to connection, registration, testing, compliance and commercial operations. What sets EPEC apart is that everything is delivered in-house: power system modelling, EPC construction, SCADA, commissioning and compliance testing, all under one roof and one point of accountability.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the design and delivery of our high-voltage substation projects. This role will drive design excellence across both internal teams and external design partners ensuring seamless integration, compliance and quality outcomes across all project phases.

You will lead the design of substations from concept through to execution, providing technical leadership to internal engineers and outsourced design consultants, and acting as the key technical interface between engineering, construction, procurement and clients. You will guide projects through the full development lifecycle, from concept and EPC pricing through to negotiation and contract execution, and support proposal development, tenders and technical presentations as we continue to grow our client base.

This is an exciting time to join EPEC. We are in a strong growth phase and will shortly be relocating to new offices spanning two floors in South Brisbane, giving you the chance to help shape a growing design function within a business built for scale.

About You

You will bring proven experience leading substation design and delivering complex infrastructure projects end to end, along with the leadership and commercial acumen to manage both internal teams and external consultants. To succeed in this role, you will have:

A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent industry experience)Proven experience as a Design Manager in high-voltage substation projectsStrong knowledge of substation design and HV systems, including AS, IEC and IEEE standardsDemonstrated experience delivering complex infrastructure projects end to endExcellent leadership, stakeholder management and communication skillsStrong commercial awareness, including cost estimation and risk managementThe ability and willingness to travel interstate to support project execution
