Design Manager

Common Good Partners have partnered with a client to appoint an experienced Design Manager on behalf of a highly regarded Tier 1 contractor with an outstanding reputation for delivering complex, high quality projects across Australia.

The Opportunity

Working closely with the Project Director and delivery team, you'll take ownership of the design process from early procurement through to project completion, ensuring design outcomes are coordinated, practical, commercially sound and aligned with programme objectives.

You'll play a key role in driving collaboration between clients, consultants and site teams, helping to identify risks early while delivering quality outcomes across major residential developments.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the design process throughout the full project lifecycle.

• Coordinate architectural, structural, services and specialist consultants.

• Lead design workshops and consultant meetings.

• Review documentation for buildability, coordination and value engineering opportunities.

• Resolve design issues before they impact programme or construction.

• Work closely with project teams to ensure seamless transition from design into delivery.

• Manage RFIs, design changes and consultant performance.

• Maintain strong relationships with clients and external stakeholders.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys being at the centre of project delivery and understands how good design directly influences construction outcomes.

You will ideally bring:

• Previous experience as a Design Manager within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 commercial builder.

• Experience delivering large residential, mixed use or Build to Rent projects.

• Strong understanding of Australian construction methodologies and NCC requirements.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

• The ability to influence consultants while balancing programme, cost and quality.

• A proactive, solutions focused approach.
