About the role
The Role
Join our team as a casual Hatchery Technician at our Proserpine Prawn Hatchery. You’ll play a vital role in breeding and growing tiger prawns, ensuring the health and sustainability of our broodstocks and delivering high-quality post-larvae to our farms. This is a hands-on role that combines animal husbandry, technical skills, and a commitment to sustainability. With a flexible roster, you’ll enjoy a fantastic work/life balance while contributing to a thriving aquaculture operation.
Responsibilities
Prepare feed and perform daily feeding routines to support optimal prawn growth.Conduct routine health checks using microscopy and visual observation. Identify, diagnose, and escalate any health issues promptly.Sample and test water quality using meters and probes to maintain ideal conditions for prawn growth.Accurately document hatchery activities, including larval production and water quality data, using iPads and computers.Implement and maintain biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks, including disinfection and cleaning of tanks and equipment.Monitor prawn health and behaviour, escalating any concerns to ensure timely resolution.
Role Requirements
Aquaculture or agriculture experience is highly desirable but not essential. Full training will be provided.This is a physically demanding role. Successful applicants will need to pass a health and fitness test prior to starting.Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for sustainable aquaculture.A proactive, team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt.The legal right to work in Australia.
