About the role

We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Peer Practitioner for a permanent, part-time outreach role. You will provide one-on-one, recovery-oriented support to people in their homes and the community, helping them build skills, strengthen connections, and increase independence.

Drawing on your lived or living experience of mental health challenges, you will champion the value of peer work, foster hope through purposeful sharing, and work alongside people to identify goals that support their recovery, wellbeing, and independence. As this role involves regular travel across Adelaide, a fleet vehicle will be provided for business use.

About the Service

Mind Australia’s Outreach Psychosocial Services South Australia (OPSSA) provide person-centred psychosocial support to help people experiencing mental health challenges live independently and well in the community. The service supports people to achieve their recovery goals, build daily living skills and community connections, and transition to longer-term supports, including NDIS services where appropiate.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual peer support grounded in your lived/living experience, including safe and purposeful sharing to build hope and support recovery.
• Utilise the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) framework to support people through periods of distress and recovery.
• Design and facilitate group programs that support peer connection and wellbeing.
• Support people to navigate systems and connect with services, education, employment and community supports.
• Work in a family-inclusive way, strengthening connections with carers and natural supports.
• Contribute to co-design and co-production, service improvement, and ongoing professional development including peer co-reflection.

What you’ll bring

• Lived or living experience of mental health challenges and willingness to use your experience purposefully to support others in their recovery journey.
• Relevant qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by Mind.
• Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, or Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, is desirable but not required.
• Previous experience using lived experience in a dedicated Peer role is strongly desirable.
• Understanding of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and family-inclusive practice.
• Valid unrestricted Australian driver’s licence.
