Our model of care provides holistic health and wellbeing services to support our Community across their lifespan. About the role

When you work with Birthing in Our Community (BiOC) as a Family Support Practitioner, your role is to provide social and emotional support and health education to women and family members throughout the woman’s pregnancy and up to three years following the birth. Also, to work effectively with other social and health practitioners to identify and access appropriate services and supports to meet their family’s needs.

Your day to day duties may include:

• Create a pathway for culturally respectful engagement between women, midwives, and other service providers.
• Supporting women with developing routines, reinforcing healthy parenting strategies, encouraging early learning activities.
• Deliver evidence-based and culturally safe and responsive services, health promotion and education to BiOC mothers and their families in both individual and group settings, including but not exclusively topics such as reducing smoke exposure to infants and children, breastfeeding and optimal infant nutrition, immunisation information for infants and young children and safe sleeping and risks associated with sudden infant death syndrome
• Support mothers with the logistical challenges of attending appointments through ensuring transport needs are met, and education is provided regarding the purpose and importance of attending the appointment.
• Create trusting and collaborative working relationships through the maternity journey with the allocated Midwife.

• Current Criminal History Check.
• Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD).
• Current Working with Children’s Check (Qld Blue Card).
• Current First Aid Certificate.
