CATL
About the role
Position Title: Site Delivery ManagerLocation: Australia, 1x Sydney and 1x BrisbaneWork arrangements: Hybrid, Customer/Project sites
About the RoleAs the Site Delivery Manager, you will drive the end-to-end commissioning strategy for utility-scale BESS projects from pre-commissioning through to successful handover. You will champion safe energisation, lead site engineering teams, and ensure rigorous compliance with AEMO, NER, and AS/NZS standards (including R2 and SAT testing). Collaborating closely with OEMs, clients, and internal teams, you will turn complex battery storage installations into high-performing, grid-compliant assets. You will also own commissioning cost performance against contract baseline and act as the primary technical interface between CATL's HQ engineering teams and Australian site operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage all commissioning activities for utility-scale BESS projects, from pre-commissioning through to final handover.Oversee R2 testing, site acceptance testing (SAT), and performance validation in compliance with AEMO, NER, and AS/NZS standards.Ensure safe energisation and integration of battery systems, PCS, transformers, switchgear, and protection systems.Monitor and control commissioning costs against the contracted budget baseline; proactively identify, document, and escalate cost recovery gaps to project leadership.Diagnose and resolve system-level architecture issues affecting commissioning outcomes (e.g., PCS-to-container configuration conflicts, BMS–PCS communication/SOC inconsistencies), beyond standard integration work.
Other DutiesDevelop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules in line with project specifications and regulatory requirements.Coordinate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure smooth transition from installation to energisation.Manage and document test results, punch lists, and defect resolution prior to project handover.Liaise with clients, OEMs, and third-party inspectors during factory and site acceptance testing.Ensure all testing and commissioning activities meet grid compliance, warranty, and contractual obligations.Provide technical leadership and mentoring to commissioning engineers and site technicians.Own final handover reconciliation — verify delivered asset quantity, capacity, and configuration match the contracted scope (e.g., container/rack count, released capacity) prior to COD sign-off; document and drive closure of any shortfall.Author and maintain site-specific HSE Management Plans; review installation/operating procedures and training materials (including contractor-produced content) for compliance with Australian HSE and grid-connection requirements before external use.Act as the technical coordination point between local site teams, clients/OEMs, and CATL's HQ-based R&D and engineering teams on product/system issues arising during Australian commissioning, ensuring timely and accurate technical communication across time zones.Coordinate urgent technical support for time-critical testing activities (e.g., grid stability tests) that may occur outside standard business hours, mobilising the right internal/external resources rather than being the sole point of response.
Requirements8+ years’ experience in commissioning or construction of large-scale renewable or energy storage projects.Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Power Systems, or relevant Engineering discipline.Strong knowledge of high-voltage systems, SCADA integration, EMS/PCS control, and protection systems.Demonstrated experience with R2 testing, grid compliance testing, and acceptance testing for utility-scale BESS.Familiar with Australian grid connection processes (AEMO, DNSP, NER, R0–R2 stages).Excellent stakeholder management and reporting skills.Experience managing commissioning budgets, cost recovery claims, or contract variation processes.Demonstrated root-cause analysis skills for multi-vendor system architecture issues (BMS/PCS/EMS/SCADA), not limited to routine integration.Experience authoring or reviewing HSE Management Plans and site procedure documentation.Comfortable working across time zones with HQ-based technical teams.Mandarin proficiency a plus but not required.Willingness to travel to project sites across Australia.Willingness to coordinate urgent/after-hours technical response during critical test windows.
