Auslan Language Model – Early Intervention (Moonee Ponds / Blackburn)

Make a real difference working within our Early Intervention team as an Auslan Language Model, supporting children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families to develop Auslan language skills, build confidence, and connect with Deaf Culture.

We have flexible permanent part-time opportunities across our Moonee Ponds and Blackburn sites, minimum 2 days per week. 

What we can offer you:

• Salary of up to $71,849 (pro rata) + Super, with 100% salary packaging to maximise your take home pay
• Generous leave entitlements including 2 weeks paid Christmas leave in addition to 4 weeks annual leave, plus extensive personal/carer's leave

You’ll make a difference in this role by:

• Sharing your knowledge of Deaf Culture and the Deaf community with families, colleagues and the wider team.
• Being a positive Deaf role model for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and supporting families on their Auslan learning journey.
• Delivering and modelling Auslan during individual early intervention sessions and group programs.
• Working closely with Teachers of the Deaf, Allied Health professionals and Key Workers to plan and deliver engaging, goal-focused sessions.
• Supporting children's Auslan language development through storytelling, play-based learning and meaningful interactions.
• Creating opportunities for parents, families and staff to build their Auslan skills through formal and informal learning, including sign classes, voice-off events and individual coaching.
• Providing services across a range of settings, including NextSense centres, homes, schools and community environments.
• Preparing resources, contributing to the development of Auslan materials and supporting the organisation and sharing of NextSense Auslan resources.
• Maintaining accurate client records, case notes and administrative documentation in line with legislative and organisational requirements.
• Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality and family-centred services.
• Participating in mentoring, professional development and continuous improvement activities to strengthen service delivery.

About You:

You are a passionate advocate for the Deaf community who enjoys supporting children and families to develop confidence and communication through Auslan.

You'll also bring:

• Deaf, native Auslan user.
• Strong understanding of Auslan linguistics and grammar.
• Experience working with children and families, ideally within early intervention or education settings.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with children, families and colleagues.
• Strong Auslan communication skills and competent written English skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Commitment to maintaining high ethical standards, confidentiality and respectful, family-centred practice.
• Respect for diversity, individual identity, culture and family values.
• A collaborative, consultative and values-driven approach to your work
• Current valid driver’s licence
• Valid Working With Children Check and NDIS Workers Check (or willingness to obtain)
• You are obliged to become familiar with, and comply with child protection policies and legislation, as amended from time to time
