About the role
Core Electronics is a maker education and retail company based in Newcastle, NSW. Since 2007 we've been helping makers, educators and engineers get over the hurdles with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, 3D printing and, more recently, local AI. Along the way we've published close to 900 guides and more than 700 videos, and run hundreds of workshops – they're the reason a lot of people in Australia got their first project working.
We're looking for the next person to carry that forward.
You'll be the person who takes a new piece of technology out of the box, figures out what's interesting about it, builds something that works, and then explains it so clearly that someone at home can do it too – whether they're reading a guide, watching a video, or sitting across the bench from you. In a typical fortnight that means some mix of:
Researching and hands-on testing new products and technologies, often before anyone else in the country has touched them
Building working projects and demos – recent examples include a first aluminium cut on a desktop CNC, a human-tracking mmWave radar on an Arduino, and a local AI agent running on an NVIDIA DGX Spark
Writing the guide – clear structure, working code, wiring, photos, and the gotchas that would otherwise cost a reader an afternoon
Presenting on camera – our creative team handles filming and editing; you bring the knowledge and the enthusiasm
Running workshops – hosting hands-on sessions in Makerverse, our onsite studio, and delivering them virtually for people who can't get to Newcastle
Feeding the loop – reading what the community asks in the comments, forums and workshops, and folding it into the next guide
To give you a concrete sense of what this role has shipped recently: the Arduino Uno Q series, the Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ 1 vs 2 comparison, getting started with the Makera Carvera, the xTool P3 and S1 unboxing-to-first-cut guides, Bambu Lab A1 and H2C setup, YOLOE and Moondream computer vision on the Pi 5, UWB spatial tracking, and setting up Ollama, Open WebUI and OpenClaw on the DGX Spark.
Essential
You've built things. Real projects with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, Pico or similar, and you can show us
Comfortable in Python, with at least one of C/C++ or MicroPython, and at home in a Linux terminal
You can explain a technical idea in plain English – in writing, out loud, and in front of a room
You're patient with beginners. In a workshop you'll have someone who's never held a soldering iron next to someone who's shipped a product, and both need to leave having learned something
Curious, self-directed, and honest about what you don't know yet. You'll be learning something new every fortnight, and the best guides come from remembering what confused you at the start
Nice to have (any of these – nobody has all of them)
3D printing and CAD, laser cutting, CNC machining, or PCB design
Computer vision, running LLMs locally, or robotics
You've taught before – running workshops, tutoring, classroom teaching, a blog or a YouTube channel
A tertiary qualification in engineering, computer science, physics, education or similar – or an equivalent trail of finished projects
No video editing skills required. No prior on-camera experience required either; if you can teach a mate how something works across a bench, you'll be fine.

A small team where ideas ship fast and you'll work directly with the people who decide what we build and stock next
Full-time casual role (38 hours a week), $35–40/hour based on experience. Once you have your routine well set, you are welcome to engage permanent full-time.
