LGBTIQ+ Specialist Mental Health Clinician

• Part Time (30.4hrs per week – 0.8FTE), Ongoing

About the role

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals are a flagship recommendation from Victoria’s Royal Commission into Mental Health, acting as the ‘front door’ to the mental health system with a ‘no wrong door’ approach.

As part of a multidisciplinary team based at the Bendigo-Echuca Local, you will provide affirming, trauma-informed clinical care to LGBTQI+ community members experiencing mental ill health or psychological distress – ensuring services are safe, inclusive and responsive to LGBTQI+ clients and their families (including chosen family).

You will:

• Conduct trauma-informed mental health assessments tailored to the LGBTQI+ community.
• Develop and deliver individualised, evidence-based care plans.
• Use a Single Session Approach to provide immediate, high-impact support.
• Partner with Peer Practitioners and the Lived Experience Team to create an affirming environment for consumers and carers.
• Contribute to co-design and co-production of services with the LGBTQI+ community.
• Collaborate with external partners to deliver seamless, integrated care that responds to intersectionality within our communities.

About you

You will have a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field with eligibility for registration with AHPRA or AASW. You will also have:

• Demonstrated clinical skill in mental health assessment and evidence-based therapeutic interventions (individual and group).
• Strong cultural competence and understanding of the mental health needs of LGBTQI+ communities, including diverse gender, sexuality and relationship experiences.
• Knowledge of affirmative, inclusive best-practice frameworks for LGBTQI+ mental health care.
• Skilled at working within multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills across consumers, families, carers and external partners.
• An understanding of intersectionality and trauma-informed practice.
• Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
