Remuneration: $79,368.82 - $111,427.34 p.a. (pro rata for part time) plus superannuation, with additional earnings available through shift, weekend and public holiday penalty rates and applicable allowances.

About the role
As a Registered Nurse at the Forensic Hospital, you will provide assessment, treatment and recovery-focused care for patients with complex mental illness within a secure forensic environment. You will work alongside experienced nursing, medical and allied health clinicians to contribute to comprehensive mental health assessments, multidisciplinary care planning and therapeutic interventions that support patient recovery while maintaining safety.
This role offers meaningful and varied work, with the opportunity to further develop your capability in:
Becoming a specialist in forensic mental health nursing
Developing expertise in therapeutic security
Delivering trauma-informed care
Advancing your skills in dynamic risk assessment
Strengthening your skills in de-escalation and the management of acute behavioural disturbance
Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Role Requirements
This opportunity may suit you if you have:
Experience in inpatient mental health and/or forensic mental health nursing
A commitment to delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care
The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Strong clinical judgement and therapeutic communication skills
An interest in building specialist skills in forensic mental health
This role may also suit Registered Nurses currently working in general inpatient mental health who are looking to transition into forensic mental health.

About the Forensic Hospital
The Forensic Hospital is unlike anywhere else in NSW Health. As the state’s only high-secure forensic mental health hospital, it offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of specialist mental health care, supporting people with serious mental illness through recovery, therapeutic engagement and dynamic risk management. You’ll work across a range of specialist clinical settings and alongside experienced nursing, medical and allied health professionals, providing exposure to different patient needs, stages of recovery and approaches to care. It’s challenging and rewarding work that will develop your specialist skills and build your expertise in forensic mental health nursing.
