Change Manager

Why your role matters

The Change Manager plays a key role within the Education Innovation and Partnerships team in the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education (PVCE) portfolio. The position supports the successful adoption of strategic education initiatives by developing and implementing tailored change strategies and engagement activities that drive sustainable behavioural, cultural and practice change across UNSW’s teaching and learning community.

Collaborating with project leads, faculty teams and PVCE leadership, the Change Manager leads stakeholder engagement, change impact analysis, communications and evaluation to support smooth and sustainable transitions. The role also helps foster a culture of innovation, adaptability and continuous improvement in education.

This position reports to the Director, Education Innovation and Partnerships and has no direct reports.

Specific accountabilities include:

• Lead, plan, design and deliver integrated change management plans to support education innovation initiatives, addressing stakeholder readiness, capability gaps, risk mitigations, communications and adoption measures, tailored to academic and operational contexts.
• Lead change analysis and change impact assessments to develop and deliver effective change initiatives, provide reports to Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) as required, conduct endto-end process reviews and benefit identification for a range of stakeholders both centrally and in Faculties.
• Lead the identification and management of change-related risks and issues across the breadth of the PVCE Portfolio.
• Lead, scope and oversee a plan to collaborate and communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, demonstrating expert negotiation skills that promote acceptance of new business processes in support of adoption of learning analytics solutions.

About You:  

• Tertiary qualifications in education, organisational psychology, business, communications, or a related field. Certification in a recognised change management methodology (e.g. Prosci, ADKAR, Agile Change, APMG) is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated success in developing and delivering structured change programs in complex, matrixed organisations, ideally within the higher education sector.
• Proven experience managing resistance, improving adoption, and embedding changes sustainably across diverse roles and organisational cultures.
• Extensive knowledge of change management principles, frameworks, and methodologies, with proven experience in applying these effectively in real-world settings.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering communication plans and artifacts across various platforms including internal communication and the ability to, confidently present accurate, appropriate and meaningful information to engage a range of audiences utilising a range of platforms and mediums, in particular digital meetings, consultations and workshops.
• Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence, and build trust across diverse academic and professional groups.
• Understanding of the Australian higher education environment, including typical academic governance processes, teaching cultures, and student engagement principles. Familiarity with curriculum innovation, digital education, or education technology change is highly desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex concepts into accessible and compelling change communications, briefings, and facilitation guides.
• Ability to assess complex change environments, evaluate readiness, and design risk-informed, inclusive and culturally aware change strategies. Demonstrated strength in strategic planning, prioritisation, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives.
• Collaborative mindset with a track record of working across cross-functional project teams and translating strategy into outcomes through influence rather than authority.
• High degree of initiative and comfort with ambiguity. Able to navigate rapidly evolving environments, shift approaches as needed, and model resilience in complex and dynamic change landscapes.
