Senior Work Health Safety Advisor

This is a hands-on senior advisory role supporting power, water and essential services operations, with a particular focus on safety, compliance and risk management across electrical infrastructure and remote operational environments. The position will work closely with operational leaders, contractors and frontline teams to ensure high-risk activities are completed safely and in accordance with relevant legislation, technical standards and asset-owner requirements.

The Role

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Safety, you will provide specialist WHS advice and support across essential services operations, with responsibilities including:

Providing expert WHS and risk management advice to operational leaders and frontline teamsSupporting safety and standards compliance across power generation, electrical distribution, water and wastewater operationsReviewing and verifying safe systems of work for high-risk activities including electrical works, confined spaces, working at heights, excavation and chemical handlingSupporting permit-to-work processes, contractor compliance, licences, competencies and authorisationsLeading incident investigations and root cause analysisConducting site inspections, behavioural observations and safety verificationsFacilitating toolbox talks and supporting JHA/SWMS complianceDeveloping and implementing risk controls and WHS proceduresSupporting internal and external audits and maintaining audit-ready compliance documentationWorking closely with external stakeholders, regulators, contractors and infrastructure asset ownersSupporting emergency response planning for essential service disruptions.

About You

This role will suit an experienced safety professional who is comfortable operating in a technical, high-risk and field-based environment.

You Will Ideally Bring

Certificate IV in WHS or equivalentPrevious experience in a Senior WHS Advisor or similar positionStrong knowledge of electrical infrastructure, utilities and/or essential servicesUnderstanding of electrical safety legislation, technical standards and safe working practicesExperience supporting high-risk operational environmentsExposure to contractor management and permit-to-work systemsStrong incident investigation and risk management capabilityExperience supporting audits, compliance and safety management systemsExcellent communication skills with the confidence to influence and respectfully challengeA collaborative approach and ability to build strong relationships across operational teamsRelevant electrical, technical or compliance qualifications will be highly regarded.

The Opportunity

The position is primarily based in Welshpool, with travel to remote Western Australian locations required as part of the role. You'll join an established safety function and work closely with operational leaders to drive practical safety outcomes, strengthen compliance and continue building a proactive safety culture.
