Bookkeeper – eCommerce Business | Xero & WooCommerce

About the role

Working closely with the business owners, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring transactions across our eCommerce and payment platforms are correctly reconciled in Xero. You will work under the direction and guidance of one of the owners, a former Principal of a CBD-based accounting firm with more than 20 years’ experience in management accounting, taxation and business consulting, providing an opportunity to work alongside and learn from an experienced accounting and business professional.

This is not a traditional bookkeeping role. Our business operates across multiple online sales and payment platforms, so we are looking for someone who understands the accounting and reconciliation requirements of an eCommerce environment.

Key responsibilities

• Bookkeeping using Xero

• Reconciling multiple payment streams, including PayPal, Square and WooCommerce transactions

• Reconciling WooCommerce sales against payments received and Xero

• Identifying and resolving discrepancies between sales, payment gateways and bank deposits

• Matching purchase orders (POs) to supplier invoices

• Entering and processing supplier invoices

• Bank and credit card reconciliations

• Maintaining accurate records of supplier payments and purchases

• Assisting with month-end reconciliation and reporting

• Identifying opportunities to improve bookkeeping and reconciliation processes

About you

• Strong practical experience with Xero

• Previous bookkeeping experience within an eCommerce or online retail business

• Experience reconciling high volumes of online transactions

• An understanding of WooCommerce sales and payment reconciliation

• Experience with payment platforms such as PayPal and Square

• Experience matching purchase orders, supplier invoices and payments

• Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to reconciliations

• The ability to investigate discrepancies rather than simply process transactions

• Good Excel skills

• The ability to work independently and communicate clearly when something doesn't reconcile
