Peer Mentor

Use your lived experience to walk alongside people in your community, providing peer support through mental health challenges and recovery journeys.
You will inspire hope, champion people’s voices and support them to work towards their hopes, dreams and wellbeing goals.

Does this describe you?

You will be passionate about helping people who are experiencing mental and emotional distress and who may need regular assistance to achieve their goals. You will have lived experience and be able to use this experience to effectively support others. You will already have experience working with NDIS participants or in similar support roles. Alternatively, you will have completed relevant studies and are looking to commence working in this field. You will already have a NDIS worker clearance or Working with Children Check or will be required to obtain prior to commencement.

About the Role

Aspire Recovery Connection is a 100% lived experience program within Uniting Care Wesley Bowden. As a member of our Peer Mentor team, led by lived experience leaders, you will support and engage with the community whom we serve, provide authentic peer connection and ensure our services are of the highest standards. This is an outreach role, supporting people out and about in the community and building relationships together.

• Offer humility, compassion and connection to build trust and rapport.
• Support people to activate their choice and control and connect with NDIS services to
   support their wellbeing.
• Contribute ideas towards continuous quality improvement and innovation.
• Work from a lived experience, human rights and compassion-centred framework to
   support people on their recovery journey.
• Help people to uphold their human rights and navigate the mental health system
   towards recovery.
• Work with family members and other supports in your people's best interest.
• Be available for 3-5 days per week and work in a flexible roster across 7 days.

Qualifications and Experience

• DHS Working with Children Check (will be required prior to commencement)
• NDIS worker screening clearance (will be required prior to commencement)
• Certificate III in Community Services (or equivalent)
• Lived experience of mental health and recovery
• Experience in peer support mental health services (desirable)
• Australian driver's license (minimum P's), reliable vehicle and comprehensive car
   insurance
• First aid certificate (desirable)

Location

This role is an outreach role across the Adelaide metro area, based at our UCWB office in Bowden.
