Private Household Manager & Family Assistant

The Role

We are a family of four in Woollahra seeking an exceptional, experienced and highly polished Private Household Manager & Family Assistant to become a trusted, long-term part of our household.

We have two young children, aged 5 and 1½. I am a stay-at-home mum, and my primary focus is being present with our children. This role exists to provide the support around me that allows our family life to run beautifully: nourishing food prepared, our home calm and impeccably presented, household systems organised, and capable childcare support available when needed.

This is not primarily a nanny position and it is not a standard housekeeping position.

We are looking for an accomplished all-round private household professional who takes genuine pride in creating an exceptionally well-run home.

The right person will naturally notice what needs doing and take ownership of it. We don't want to provide a daily list of tasks. Over time, we'd like you to know our household, routines and preferences well enough to anticipate what is needed and quietly make it happen.

·       Has significant professional experience in a high-standard private household, luxury hotel, private yacht or comparable five-star service environment

·       Has excellent, verifiable references and demonstrated longevity in previous positions

·       Is meticulous and notices details others overlook

·       Takes genuine pleasure in creating an immaculate, organised and beautifully presented home

·       Is an excellent, confident home cook with a strong understanding of nutritious whole-food cooking

·       Is proactive and anticipates what needs doing rather than waiting to be directed

·       Is highly organised and naturally creates and maintains good household systems

·       Is calm, warm, kind and emotionally mature

·       Is polished, well presented and communicates beautifully

·       Is discreet and understands the professional boundaries required when working within a private family home

·       Can read a room and instinctively understands when to engage and when to work quietly in the background

·       Is comfortable around young children and genuinely enjoys interacting with them

·       Is reliable, punctual and consistent

·       Is looking for a minimum two-year commitment, ideally considerably longer

·       Has unrestricted/appropriate Australian working rights for the duration of that commitment

·       Speaks fluent English

Experience working for a HNW/private family or in luxury hospitality/private service would be highly regarded.

Household Management & Presentation

We already employ a cleaner, so this role is not centred around heavy or deep cleaning.

Instead, you will take ownership of the day-to-day presentation and organisation of our home.

We expect our home to feel calm, orderly and beautifully presented throughout the day—closer to the presentation standard of a five-star hotel than simply a house that is tidy.

·       Maintaining immaculate presentation of living areas throughout the day

·       Resetting rooms after family use

·       Making beds and ensuring bedrooms are beautifully presented

·       Washing, folding and putting away family laundry

·       Ironing and steaming as required

·       Changing bed linen weekly

·       Maintaining organised wardrobes, cupboards, drawers and storage areas

·       Keeping children's bedrooms and play spaces beautifully organised

·       Loading and unloading the dishwasher

·       Resetting and cleaning the kitchen after meals and cooking

·       Monitoring household and kitchen supplies and flagging/replenishing items before they run out

·       Assisting with household errands and deliveries where required

·       Preparing our home before guests arrive

·       Quietly maintaining presentation while we are entertaining

·       Ensuring our home is completely reset at the end of each working day so we can enjoy a calm evening together

My husband frequently works from home and often has meetings at the house, so consistent presentation of our home is particularly important.

Kitchen Ownership & Family Cooking

Cooking is a significant component of this position.

We are looking for someone who genuinely loves good food and understands the value of nourishing a family well.

Our approach is predominantly whole-food, minimally processed, mostly organic, refined-sugar-free and lower-gluten. We prioritise excellent-quality ingredients and nutrient-dense meals rather than diet-focused food.

·       Planning family meals

·       Grocery shopping and/or managing grocery orders

·       Preparing nutritious family lunches and dinners

·       Weekly meal preparation

·       Preparing children's school lunchboxes

·       Preparing snacks for school, home and activities

·       Preparing food ahead for particularly busy days

·       Keeping the refrigerator, freezer and pantry organised

·       Monitoring freshness and reducing unnecessary food waste

·       Maintaining appropriate kitchen stock

·       Keeping food storage orderly and hygienic

·       Leaving the kitchen immaculate after cooking

We have recipes and cookbooks we love, but would also welcome someone who can confidently suggest meals and develop an understanding of what our family enjoys.

We are not looking for elaborate restaurant food. We want exceptionally good, wholesome family cooking using beautiful ingredients.

Childcare Support

I am our children's primary caregiver, so you will not routinely be responsible for both children for entire days.

However, you must be someone we completely trust with our children.

There will be times when I have an appointment, take one child to an activity, exercise, run an errand or simply need an extra pair of capable hands.

·       Caring for our 5-year-old and/or 1½-year-old

·       Reading and imaginative play

·       Arts, crafts and creative activities

·       Playing outside and visiting local parks

·       Preparing and serving meals and snacks

·       Following our toddler's nap routine, including books and cuddles

·       Nappy changes

·       Assisting with bath time

·       Tidying children's spaces after activities

·       School or activity pick-ups where appropriate

We are a screen-free household for the children and follow a gentle, respectful and conscious approach to parenting.

We value connection, creativity, outdoor play, books and allowing children the space to play.

We are looking for someone who can comfortably follow our parenting approach rather than bringing a rigid philosophy of their own into the home.

The quality we value most is ownership.

If cushions are out of place, you straighten them. If we're nearly out of something we use every day, you add it to the shopping. If the children's craft area has become chaotic, you reorganise it. If tomorrow is particularly busy, you think ahead about dinner.

You don't walk past something because it wasn't specifically assigned to you.

At the same time, you understand that this is our family home rather than a workplace in the traditional sense. You are comfortable being an important and trusted presence while allowing us the space to enjoy family life privately.

Police/background checks will be required prior to appointment.

A current driver's licence is desirable but not essential. If you do drive, occasional school or activity pick-ups may form part of the role.
